    MAG Regional Report

Hey congratulations to your boy! I haven't been on here in a while, but came to see who's going to Nationals. DS pulled it out and we'll be off to Florida next month too. :D

    MAG Speculation

Interesting. When you take your first team, they score the highest based on highest scores, but if you put Dalton in for Whittenburg, the total based on average score goes up. 273.524 vs. 273.05. Some of the high scores are such outliers they probably don't mean much. For instance...

Parents How many presses in a row?

I'll have to ask DS when he gets out of practice. I think I've got the only level 10 boy on here, so he should be able to do the most, but I'll bet there are a bunch of you with little girls who can beat him. ;)

    MAG Speculation

This is fun. I get 278.275 with Mikulak, Brooks, Dalton, Naddour, and Leyva.

MAG HB Grips for Tiny hands

Oh and the hot shots do come in buckle. DS has always preferred buckle grips.

MAG HB Grips for Tiny hands

My DS used the hot shot grips for levels 5 and 6. He liked them.

    MAG Speculation

I don't think you can afford a one eventer. With this core team, you also need HB slots filled. The hard thing is that Whittenburg and Dalton seem to have earned their spots, but their strengths are too similar. The PH/ HB guys would'a should'a could'a been Orozco and Leyva, but neither of...

    WAG Let's talk about pits.

Yeah. The gymnastics business seems like the wrong one for the germ phobic. If you really think about it, it will freak you out. Bleeding hands, kids spitting on their hands, sweat-- all mixing together on the equipment, which you can't really sanitize. It's a breeding ground for germs.

    WAG Let's talk about pits.

It's definitely hard and I would think requires good spotting skills by the coaches. DS and his teammates work new skills more independently on pit bar and rings. It would require a lot more one on one coaching for them to be learning new releases and dismounts without a pit. I think pits...

MAG Name That Move -- ____ Punch

Hah. Sounds like DS's father. DS is rehabing a knee injury right now. The other day, he was talking to his dad about doing Geingers at practice and dad replied "wow I can't believe your vaulting already." lol

MAG Name That Move -- ____ Punch

A Barani starts frontwards though so not out of a RO BHS. Or are there two flippy twisties after the RO BHS? That could be 1.5 punch barani. That would make sense.

    MAG New routines/changes?

I agree with gracy about level 10 guys not being so concerned about being in a division where they can win medals. I know my DS doesn't even appreciate winning a medal if there are only a few guys and he doesn't feel like he's earned it. They're big boys and don't expect to get bling just for...

    MAG New routines/changes?

Gosh. There are so few guys in 8-10, yet USAG keeps dividing them into more an more subdivisions. I don't get it.

    MAG Age requirement changes?

They don't declare themselves specialists. They can add or drop events. You can actually even do all around at states and qualify as a specialist if they're top 5 (I think) on an event but don't make the AA cutoff.

    MAG Age requirement changes?

Another possibility is that you can specialize in level 10. A lot of our guys specialize and you can still qualify for regionals and nationals as a specialist. If you guy's competitive on 3 or 4, maybe focusing on those events would allow him to get really good at them.

    MAG Age requirement changes?

There is Xcel here. It's probably more common up my way than where you are. It's all over the place in terms of how gyms are using it. Some, ours included, use it as I think it was intended, for rec kids who want a little more and get to do a few meets. Others look like they're training a...

    MAG Age requirement changes?

I don't imagine coaches will change their philosophies for older guys much. I did notice, and you might have been at the same session, there were only 2 out of age 9s at states this year. Our coach only uses 9 for guys who are in age. He sees it as so close to 10 that if they can do 9, they...

And if you don't mind us all grilling you, KRC, are there major changes to technical sequences?

    MAG Yup...not watching

Yes. Did you see the competition where Danell Leyva tried to catch the bar with his mouth? He was spitting teeth.

    MAG Yup...not watching

DS does a Geinger. At banquet, his coach joked about how many times in practice he tried to catch the bar with his forearms. Lots of black and blues.
