Coaches L4 Bars - Undershoot Dismount

Thank you all very much. Bonus points for the paintbrush artistry! ;) I have tried a similar drill with a block between the bars - but for them already in a reverse hollow, simply attempting to 'pull' the undershoot from that position to the block. I like the idea of moving it out...

Coaches L4 Bars - Undershoot Dismount

I'm looking for some pointers/thoughts/drills that may help our girls with their undershoot dismounts. Is this [what I guess is common] problem of dropping their hips after the BHC point to a particular strength issue? Or is more body awareness? A few habitual offenders have long since...

    Parents Emma- Circle of Stars

Small world! I'm actually in the background in some of that clip ;) ...hanging out with our three L5's before coaching our L4's later that day. Our girls were in your same rotation! I even commented to one of our girls on your daughter's form during her floor routine...very nice...

    Up close and personnel…

Another thing - others likely know far more, but my own daughter competing in AAU's nationals this summer (1st time we ventured outside of USAG)...there was a ladies division also in our session. Not sure of the age qualifications, but it might be of more interest had you wanted to avoid...

    Up close and personnel…

Hi Ashley, Just an FYI...we have three woman/coaches at our gym that are competing Prep-Op. All three are married - 23, 26...and 37! Doesn't hurt that the elder was a college gymnast that has kept in remarkable shape, but she has competed very strongly this year. They pick just a few meets...

    Coaches Skills Poster

I'm glad this topic was posted, I've been wanting to do the same with our 'pre-team' L2-L4 girls. Would any of you be able to provide example 'accomplishments' specifically for UB? I've tried a few things on paper, but seem to get stuck on what might work best. I initially based it strictly...

    Prep-Ops

Aside from what has already been mentioned (6-7 transitional option), I think it's a great retention technique as well. We have several girls, for whatever reasons, who were not able to remain as competitive as they would have liked entering optionals. Prep-op is an excellent alternative...

    Coaches deduction question

My guess was .50, a quick Google search provided the following... SPOTTING DEDUCTIONS - LEVELS 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 - BARS - BEAM - FLOOR Coach spotting gymnast during routine (touch) 0.50 Plus deduction for any part of complete element assisted by the coach. The maximum deduction of a single...

    Parents Meets on Fridays?

Yeah, every once in a while. My daughter's first meet a couple weeks ago was on a Friday morning...out of state! Just got word on her second meet; another Friday morning :( Does happen at the larger meets, but over the years we've only been hit a few times. No doubt SHE has no problem with...

    Coaches problem with straight arms

Our boys coach also put together a short sequence of pommel skills to help with this. One thing you might want to express is that she keep that supportive hand as close to her hip as possible. In some that have had problems, their center of balance is too far away from this supportive hand/arm.

    Coaches First Meet Memories

Coached my first sanction meet last night (L4)! I have to tell you I was pretty nervous. We only had 4 girls signed up, so the work load wasn't too much, but it's amazing how lost I felt...standing just a few feet over the ropes from where I sat for 13 years watching my own daughter ;) A...

    Help! New Preschool Coach!

I'm a new coach myself (6mos), working with our 'fun meet' pre-team girls. I'm in a similar situation in regards to working with the very new girls. I feel much more productive with the ones working L3-L5 skills...but often helpless with the girls needing the most basic skills. What I have...

    Parents Halloween~

Our gym's lock-in is the highlight of the year for a lot of our gymnasts. On a nearby Saturday we meet around 3pm at the gym. We all go together to a corn maze/pumpkin patch...cider, donuts, feeding the animals...each gymnast getting to pick out out a small pumpkin. Back to the gym after for...

    bars help

[rookie coach disclaimer here] As others have mentioned, leading/extending with the foot is key to getting the weight forward - building the momentum from the start with a 'larger' circle. I like to extend my open hand just beyond their reach of that lead foot...telling them to 'give me five'...

    Help Please! Loose Foam Pit

Thanks Rick, and thanks to all of you for replying. I have since gotten a lot of help from Mike Rainey at GMR. I've come to learn that our gym has done business with Mike in the past & he's a well respected pit builder himself. Regarding the formula I posted, Mike noted that the 70% factor...
