WAG When the body quits before you feel finished.

I had my share of injuries in high school, and then I blew out my knee last summer and was done :(. It's definitely been tough, but I also stepped up my coaching hours and spent a lot of time hanging out with my team. And now that I'm almost done with rehab, I've been able to start playing...

    Favorite skill

My favorite skill to do is a tsuk - hoping to at least do it into the pit off a wedge again when my knee is cleared. I like to watch almost anything!

Coaches Back Handspring- Back Handspring Trouble!!

Well, I never did a backhandspring series on an actual beam and am only a pre-team coach now, so take this with a grain of salt. But I listened to my coaches criticizing my teammates' series for years. I'm actually really interested in what someone like dunno has to say. However, this what I...

    WAG Bars combination help?

backhip circle - stay tight and hollow, don't throw your head back, keep pressure on the bar. squat on - be patient, cast high, lean over the bar, and don't be afraid to go for it!

    Piked back handspring?

Do backhandsprings to a pushup shape on a 8incher.

    Back Handspring Problems!

Sounds like you're not getting enough of a push of your legs (though it's hard to tell without a video) - this is the part that is a lot harder without the bouncy trampoline. Try doing more leg strength and make sure you push really hard through your legs and keep your chest up and body going...

    WAG Teenagers!

You should treat them like teenagers. Use a normal tone of voice and don't overly explain things, but let them know you want them to ask if they ever need clarification on anything. Your main focus should be on gymnastics, but it's ok to be nice and ask them about their personal lives (I love...

    Need Help With Double Twist

A double is more like a full + a full than a 1 1/2 + a 1/2. When you do a 1 1/2, you can get away with throwing your head and shoulders back on the takeoff and rushing the twist because your momentum will get you where you want to go, but you can't do this with the double. It's hard to tell...

WAG 3 reasons why you love gymnastics!

    1. Getting a new skill 2. Hitting at a meet 3. My awesome teammates and coaches!

WAG What combination are you??? (or your dd)

Well, I have power and grace, not necessarily a flipper but definately not a twister, fluent, dancer, and mentally tough.

    Long Hand Pullovers?

Trust your coaches, try it, and don't let go of the bar! And let us know how it goes!

    What is XCEL/ EXEL????

Xcel (also known as prep-op) is a different "track" from the JO level system. The different colors are different levels. Right now xcel varies from state to state so what the requirements are for xcel gold, for example, in one state are different from in another state, but USAG is working on...

    Platinum Excel question

In my state, advanced prep op uses the level 9 vault chart but most girls still do a fhs or a 1/2 on 1/2 off. If you tsuk and make it to your feet, you are almost garrunteed a top 3 vault finish :). I went out of state last year and competed excel platinum, I think it was their highest excel...

    Unique floor skills?

In the floor routine I had for the past two years, I did an inward full turn to my knee immediately into a back shoulder roll... kinda hard to explain, but it looked really neat! If we ever find the right cord to connect the camera to the computer, I will definately put up some of my meets and...

Cried 7 Times at Camp Today.

Sorry, hope you didn't take that the wrong way - you obviously really want to be on the team. And it's a great goal to have! It just seems that you are putting a lot of pressure on yourself to get there this summer. And while it might seem like "giving up" or not being as committed, if you...

Cried 7 Times at Camp Today.

If you get upset over something, that means you really care about it, and it definately is worth it. Just think, if you didn't care at all about school and then you got low grades, would you be upset? I'm guessing not. But sometimes you do have to prioritize and make sacrifices to make your...

? for those who train 5 days in a row (or coach those who train)

I've always taken a long time to recover from any kind of workout and my body can't really handle more than two days in a row... part of the reason I started doing prep-op (although I still workout with 9s and 10s, I just sometimes miss out on the particular skill focus of different days). But...

Hitting feet on ground during bars?

When you're coming out of a release skill, you have a lot of power, and sometimes it feels like you will peel if you really try to keep your feet up; not an excuse but certainly a factor!
