What is the USAG rule for when a kid starts competing? If I have a second year level 8 that moves from our AAU & non sanctioned gym to a USA gym, is the athlete made to start in compulsories? Or can they petition into their current level?
And if they are made to start in compulsories, can they...
So then kip, squat on, kip, cast 3/4, giant, layout would start from a 9.5 and not a 9.9? That's what I'm getting. I have a kid who struggles with clear hips but has giants even though she can't cast to vertical yet. Was hoping that I could get away with no clear hip for one more season :)
I'm having a hard time teaching this. Well, not entirely, but...my kids aren't getting that awesome lift that I see some kids get with their layout flyaway.
Actually, I'm having two issues...I have a group of ten kids getting ready to move to level 6 and I really want them to have a layout...
My compulsory level 3 and 4 kids competed this weekend and did great. We didn't compete our 5s or our optional kids...I expected the scoring to be about what it was for us in the last cycle since I knew at this judges cup we would see the same judges we saw last year, and it was. All 10 of my...
Saw that floor routine last night when I watched event finals (had to dvr - didn't get a chance to watch the webcast)
That guy is INSANE!! I was watching him like whaaaaaaat?! The 3.5 twist-double full pass?! Are you serious?! And his quad twist! He floats out of it like a boss. Absolutely...
And while some may be "okay" with coaches talking to their kids about what to eat and what not to eat, do you really want someone unqualified giving this kind of "education" to your child? I know around here, lots of coaches at tumbling gyms, cheer gyms and gymnastics gyms are high school and...
Because the head coach isn't the child's parent or doctor or dietitian. Because the head coach is just that - the head coach. To coach gymnastics. To teach gymnastics. To run the program. The child most certainly will not discuss their feelings of negativity regarding their body with someone who...
No. This is not for coaches to discuss with these kids. I honestly cannot think of a time when it would ever be appropriate for coaches to discuss this ever.
Coaches, leave the nutrition advice and the "let's eat healthy" conversations up to the child's parents and doctors. It's not our job...
Do not relax. Weight should not be addressed by coaches ever. Coaches are here to coach gymnastics...teach gymnastics to kids in a fun, safe, and healthy environment. What your child weighs or doesn't weigh isn't the coaches concern. Leave it to the child's medical doctor or dietitian. Coaches...
Ummm. Yikes.
It only takes ONE comment like that to scar someone for the rest of their life. A good friend of mine had a raging eating disorder. There were lots of contributors from family life, I'm sure...but a comment from our junior high track coach seemed to be the straw that broke the...

WHAT?? Is this seriously possible? A quad double? On floor? Holy smokes. I know on trampoline it's a miller +, but this is the very first one that *i* have ever seen this attempted on floor (a rod floor, but still!)
Crazy crazy crazy hard. I bow down.
A game my compulsory kids LOVE and beg for is tic-tac-toe...we play it as a conditioning game. I get out my white board (big, 3'x4') and draw a tic tac toe grid. In each box I write a different exercise & number of reps. ... Like 25 laps, 15 chin-up pullovers, so many frisbee pulls, so many...
