WAG Gymnasts with Type 1 diabetes

I typed a long message and lost it. My 7 year-old was diagnosed in January. She is not on a pump yet but got a dexcom a month ago. It really eases my mind. Her coaches have been great. It is hard but gymnasts are tough and can handle anything. Feel free to message me with questions.

    Parents Meets and Gift bags

We don't do snack/goody bags at regular meets either. I don't think I have ever seen any gyms do them. Our kids eat before or immediately after a meet. For State meet we collect money and do a little goody bag as just an extra celebration. Even then I think only the levels with really young...

WAG How is your gym's practice structured at low compulsory level?

My dd had the same problem. The coaches would give her corrections like "get your hips flat" she would nod and walk away. I could tell by the look on her face that she had no idea how to do that. Lol! After practice I asked her if she knew what they were saying and she said no. I told her she...

    Parents Making own gymnastic equipment...

A floor beam and a chin up bar in the doorway would be great. My husband made the floor beam and they loved it for about a month. Now they hardly use it. Glad it only cost us 50 bucks. It's like any other toy they get. The excitement wears off fast.

    WAG Forced to scratch

My girls are competing lvl 3 this year and I have seen some very scary BHS. I have also seen some being spotted, using a mat, and omitting it. Have not seen anyone scratch yet.

Parents Risky activities during comp season?

I have told my kids to stay off the monkey bars at recess the week of a meet. Their hands are already hurting and covered in rips. No point in making them worse. My girls still play soccer and sometimes have to leave the gym early. Before they leave their coach always tells them not to get hurt.;)

Parents NY Times article about losing

The only time I got upset at a meet that did not place 100% was when we competed against those gyms that "stack the deck" and my child's 9.7 or 37 all around score does not even place.

    Parents gymnast hair grooming products

Have you tried "Got To Be Glued" it comes in a yellow tube. A lot of the moms at dds gym love it. Also starting with damp hair helps.

" Mom watch this! Mom stretch my______! Mom can I stay for open gym even though I have been at practice...
