Wow! Coachmolly, txgymfan... I disappear off the main boards for years at a time but the gang’s still here! All I need is for Dunno to chime in with a “yikes” and my life will be complete! ;)
Yes, she took last year off because she spent spring semester at the Conserve School in Wisconsin (sort of an outdoorsy naturey semester school where she had an amazing experience). We really wanted her to be done with gym... financially, time-wise, stress-wise it just didn’t seem to make...
Is anyone familiar with the gym options in Sarasota, FL? There seem to be a good number of them. My daughter is a senior in high school, competing level 9, and coaching pre-team (plus whatever other classes they throw her into when they need her). She is considering New College of Florida in...
What's a mother to do when she feels guilty about making her child quit gymnastics? Lets her keep the dog we've been fostering who she's fallen totally in love with! I actually completed the adoption process on Wednesday, but didn't tell her till Friday when she got home from her last practice...
Thanks everybody for your kind words and advice. I'm surprised anyone still remembers me. I've been sequestered away in my own little private discussion group and rarely venture onto the main board anymore. I will try to do so more often.
Gymmmomoftwo, no worries. I may very well have given...
Haven't posted on the main board since forever. Next week will be my daughter's last week of competitive gymnastics. She's a 16-year-old level 8 (would be a 9 if she continued). She is going off to a semester school for the second half of next year (her choice) and her dad and I (ok, mostly her...
And imagine if ALL gyms took that position. There wouldn't BE a level 8 Regionals.
But sorry to have de-railed this post from the OP's original intention. It is super-awesome that she and her teammates are going to be part of the "Super 8" team in her region! I'm sure you're one proud mama! :)
Sometimes the judges just miss it. I remember a level 6 (old, back when 6 was a compulsory level) where a girl forgot an element and both judges totally missed it. I doubt it happens often, especially when there are multiple judges, but I've definitely seen it happen.
Yeah, I know... we're not supposed to reply to old threads. But someone "liked" this comment of mine today, about 6 years after I posted it, and it was funny to go back and read it. Just for the record, dance and gym did NOT delay puberty for my girls till they were 18 (big shock). Interestingly...
Even in our state, I have heard that the judges in the Western part of the state judge harder than the Eastern part of the state. I have no idea if that's true or not. Almost all of our in-state meets are in the Eastern part of the state, but I really think that's just how it worked out... HC is...
Welcome to Chalk Bucket. I don't know what I would have done without this group throughout my daughter's time in gymnastics! I hope you will find a lot of support and answers here as well.
PS... Love your "name". I'm a Hufflepuff. What about you?
DD has been to the one in PA. It's really a great place. No experience with Woodward West but Woodward, PA is really in the middle of NOWHERE so yes, I can see transportation being an issue. Maybe an Amish family will take you there in their horse and buggy. ;)
