One of my friend's dd competes USAIGC for a similar reason (chronic injury) and loves it. She was also a strong level 7 and transitioned into Gold. I've seen her meet videos and her routines are identical to level 8. She's solid on all events. You may be seeing scratches at States due to lack...
This is just me and my moral compass, but I would not have my JO dd finish her season and them compete Xcel. She had her chance to compete JO against her like peers and place (or not). I'd be embarrassed to then bring her to an Xcel meet and take away medals from girls who this is their actual...
FWIW, my dd's coaches told us the same thing. Something about the skill not being progressive and the series going from fast (BHS) to slow (BWO) making the connection difficult to achieve while doing the BHS landing correctly. They do like the BWO BHS and we mostly see that at meets. Head...
Not to hijack, but curious. For minor back aches and pains (or as in this post more painful), what should be done routinely after practice? Icing just the painful area or something else for the entire back?
I don't have any tips as I am not a coach and we don't do level 2 in my state. But as a mom, I wouldn't get involved in helping my daughter with skills. She has only been to two practices at a new gym where you are unfamiliar with the coaching methods. You don't want your good intentions to...
We have not BTDT nor is my daughter a tween yet. But I agree that I would try to keep her in the sport a bit longer to see if she can ride this out. Maybe not competing in a meet or two? Or just trying out a different league to see what is is like? I also would not want her leaving a sport...
I understand that the optional level requirements will not be released until May but curious if anyone knows how the current levels 7 and 8 compare to the new levels 6, 7, and 8. Will the old 8 and new 8 be the same?
My dd is currently a level 6 and recently there have been teams entering...
So sorry for what your dd has been through but your outlook is right on. There is much, much worse that children face medically.
My dd has a teammate who suffered from OCD. She was restricted to conditioning and skills not involving her arm for almost a year. She did PT several times a week...
IMO, totally unnecessary and just plain mean. That's what awards are for at the meet. Girls who placed had their glory and audience applause. Those who didn't place are well aware. They don't need to relive it at the gym the next day.
I agree that you are saying and doing all the right things. Some kids are especially hard on themselves and having anxiety doesn't help. I, too, always stress to dd that you can't control how others do and if you do your best then that's all you can do. We have a girl on our team who also has...
Even though your intentions were good, sounds like she is too young for a one-on-one practice. This is just my opinion, but sounds like she is doing great with new skills during class and if you continue to bring her to privates that she seems uninterested to participate she will end up looking...
Congratulations to your dd on BWO!!! Definitely the most nerve-wracking skill of level 6 (with full turn in a close second).
I find it funny how best events change from season to season. Here you were nervous for beam and that was her best placement.
