I know that 2012 isn't even in the books yet, but DD was asking if the Fab 5 would be back for 2016. I haven't heard anything from the ladies (I read that Danell was hoping for an Olympic return, but it's a little different for guys).

I know several of the parents have talked about capitalizing on endorsements, but I'm sure that wouldn't preclude them from competing if they wanted. Any predictions? Hopefully the results of Nastia, Shawn and ASac this year wouldn't immediately dissuade them. Both Shawn and ASac had injuries to deal with, and I think Nastia just came back too late.

Quite honestly I don't see many of them staying. Too many gymnasts have proven over the years that making two Olympiads is extremely hard. With the level of difficulty they have to do today, I can't see many of them doing it. Of all of them, I think maybe Jordyn and Kyla. Not sure about the others. Tough to call to be honest. Never underestimate determination. I could see this group capitalizing on college in this economy. Endorsements don't last forever but an education does.

I have heard: Kyla wants to stay in and Maroney also is going to try to stay.....she was talking TTY.

I think: Jordyn will stay because she didn't make the AA. I think Gabby and Aly may want to stay, but I don't think it will happen.

I think Kyla will stay, she's too young to be finished, this is only her first year as a senior and she's not even 16, is she? Has she even finished high school yet? I can't see her just quitting now. I also don't think she is enough of a household name yet for her to just capitalize on endorsements.

I really hope Maroney sticks around and lands a TTY.

I also hope Price and Finnegan, the two alternates, stick around. I could see either of them winning world titles in the next few years.

I don't see the others sticking with it to be honest. I am sure Jordyn would love to come back and redeem herself with an AA medal in 4 years but I don't know if that is really a realistic goal for her. Let's hope though that if they do decide they want to stick around for Rio they don't take 3 years off and then go for a "comeback" at the last minute.

Nastia and Bridget also fought injurys while trying to come back after Bejing.

As the youngest (like Bridget) and only just starting her sophomore year in HS, I think Kyla as the best chance. I'm also hoping Kyla does not "go pro" and keeps her elligibility so she can get a scholarship.

The others are already pro and may be ready to explore careers and college. If not now, possibly within the next few years.

Kyla will only be 19 at the next Olympics, so she has a pretty good chance if she sticks with it. I think gymnasts run into problems when they have big injuries or "retire" and then change there mind a couple of years later. If they stay in it, especially at a younger age, it's a more realistic goal. IMO anyway.

of course it will be different LOL my DD thinks she has a chance for 2016 because she will be old enough (not happening LOL)

Maybe as an event specialist. Not going pro is a tough choice to make when you're a member of a gold winning team. That team gold is going to be worth a lot of money. Hard to quantify an NCAA career when you already made it to the Olympics and won a team gold. I honestly wish they could do both, although I understand why the rules are in place...

I don't think Weiber and Raisman could go another four years. They look like they carry too much muscles mass already, and will likely put more on with another four years of training. I'd hate to see them hobbling around at the 2016 Visa meet and not make it to trials.

Any of the others are physically good to go for another 4 years, if their hearts and wallets can last that long. Gabby even looks like she's good for another 8 to 20 :D years if she want's to pass on cashing in from all that olympic bling..........

Raisman was mentioning 2016 before the Olympics. Interesting to see that many think Kyla is one of the more likely. It has been reported that her parents are rather tall. If she continues and her height increases it may be too much of an adjustment for her body to continue at the top level.

She already went pro before the Olympics so hopefully she plays these gold medals for all they're worth. Not that it matters in terms of more international gymnastics competitions.

I'm VERY sad to say that I don't think any of them are coming back. I was sad to see Nastia go to, I wanted her to make the Olympic team, but I kinda knew she wouldn't.
For every Olympics, it's hard as you become older because younger stars rise and be better.

I would love Gabby to stick around - We've only really just got to know her in the last 12 months and I for one am a big fan!
It is SO difficult to make the team twice in the USA though! There are so many great youngsters with their eyes firmly on 2016.

I think one of the toughest things is dealing with all the endorsements, tour time etc after the Olympics. Must be rough to go back to the gym knowing you're going to be practicing 5 hours or so/day for the next 3+ years after being on TV interviews, commercials and the like. I can see why some won't want to put their body through anymore physical stress.
Even though Kyla didn't compete AA or make EF, she is still one of the Fab 5 and will be pulled to do alot of appearances with them.
I hope they all take some much needed time off to make the decision of whether or not to keep going.

I would think that Gabby won't be back...she's won team and AA gold...it will only be downhill from there. I could see Kyla sticking around bc she's 15 , and hasn't gone pro (yet..) . Maroney ...well I could see her getting the TTY and coming to the next Olympics with that AND the Amanar in her tank..and getting redemption. Aly talks about sticking around for Rio but 4 more years of Mihai won't be any picnic for her body to take...unless she takes a page from Alicia Sacramone's book and trains on her own terms , but Aly doesn't have a rebel bone in her body so I wouldn't see that happening. And Jordyn...hopefully she just moves on and goes to college like the rest of her family...take advantage of her pro opportunities but 4 more years would be tough for her too...

I agree with you (as usual). Jordyn has committed to being the volunteer assistant at UCLA after she graduates HS next year. Kayla could do 3 years of gym and HS, take a gap year to train and then go on to college (with a scholarship) after Rio. I would love to see her being the veteran on that team. She seems very calm and could be a good leader.

I do not think any of the team will announce their "retirement" anytime soon. In the aftermath of the game, I'm sure they think they can do pro work, education, fun stuff and elite gym. After you win an OGM as a teen, I'm sure you think you can do ANYTHING. The team does have their big tour this fall so I can't see any of them on next year's world team.

I honestly don't know who, if anyone, we will see back. But I do find it interesting how many people are acting as though going to college will rule people out in the future. We know that this is just not the case, Sure we had another teenage team this year but how soon are we forgetting our 2004 team! Mohini was 25 (close to 26.) Annia was 26. Sure there were 2 16 year olds, but the average age of the team was 20. And lets not forget Chellsie and Alicia who were both 20 in 2008. In fact, Alicia was still pretty strong this year, she was 2nd on both vault and beam at trials... after tearing her achilles less than a year ago. That is no small feat!

So, no, I see absolutely NO reason why we should rule out a single girl from this team from staying in, or getting back in, in the future. Regardless of whether they go to college, take a break from training, continue training, any of it. Gymnastics isn't a sport for just 16 yr olds. Women in their 20s and even 30s can still be contenders in this sport so I think it's time to throw away the idea that we should rule girls out after they're 18.

Did anyone catch the interview last night with Missy Franklin? She is so adorable. She was going on and on about how much she is looking forward to swimming on a college team and how much being part of a team means to her. I think too many young athletes give up their NCAA eligibility too soon.

Ellie Black of Canada will be back, I believe. I'm also hoping Peng Peng will try again! I know she has commited to UCLA so you never know...

I'm hoping for Maroney to pull out a TTY and improve some of her other events and then try for 2016. I love McKayla!

I hope Kyla will stick around since she can only get better.

I hope Aly trains for 2016 but I have a suspicicion that her body will give out.

I REALLLY REALLY REALLY HOPE ELIZABETH PRICE STICKS AROUND. I absolutely LOVE Ebee! I think she will just improve and has the drive for it.
