Ages for competition

Hi, just wondering if someone can tell me how old boys have to be to compete?

And also is it 5 or 6 for girls as I have heard both.

I think girls can compete the calendar year that they turn 6. So they may be 5, turning 6 that year, but not having turned 5 that year.

They have to be 5 years old on January 1st of that year.

My daughter was 5 years old and couldn't compete in her first (old 4) meet until her 6th birthday. In fact her coach at the time had no idea and competed her before her birthday and she was disqualified.

Yes turning 6 in the calendar year for all gym sports.
Not turning 5, so they have to be 5 turning 6 before dec 31st or 6.
