WAG Aloha Gymfest meet

Our gym is looking at the Aloha Gymfest in Oahu, Hawaii, January 2019. Have any of your gyms participated in this meet? Would love some feedback especially where to stay and your overall experience. Thanks so much!

We've been! It was great, but then how can a meet in Hawaii not be great?! There is a meet in Honolulu the weekend before, so if you can go to both meets it makes the trip a bit more worth it financially. The drive from Honolulu/Waikiki to Kailua is not long, only about 30 minutes, so you can really stay almost anywhere and not have too far to travel to the meet. Kailua is small, if you want to stay in that area, we found it best to look for a house, apartment, or condo through VRBO or one of the similar sites. The beaches in the Kailua area are beautiful!

Have been a few times. The Kokokahi team are wonderful hosts, really cool awards and great snack bar! The meet is on the other side of the island from Honolulu/Waikiki(but only about a 25 min drive). We have stayed in hotel in Waikiki and rented house/condo on that side of the island in Kaneohe on different trips. Really depends on what type of vacation experience you are looking for apart from the competition. Hotel in Waikiki is more of big city experience and party beach with lots of people, Kaneohe is much more laid back, less people, awesome beach.

We haven't been, but have met several families from the host gym at different times and they have told us about the meet. They host a big beach party and have shell trophies. It sounds really fun. I would love to go.
