This is more out of curiosity than anything...my dd isn't competing this skill this year although she works on it in the gym....

I've noticed that the majority of squat ons (that I've seen anyway) have some degree of bent knees. Is this pretty much the norm? What is the deduction for this in competition or is it allowed? I have seen a few squat ons with perfectly straight legs, but I'm sure it is very hard to do especially in taller gymnasts. I will say the ones I have seen with straight legs are beautiful but wasn't sure how much if any difference it makes on scoring. Thanks!

Yup, squat ons are supposed to have bent legs. Pike ons have straight legs. Either can be competed in level 4 and up I guess.

Our coach requires her girls to do pike ons - DD was deducted for bent knees all year! She has ridiculously long legs and isn't very flexible, it always looks so odd and I've always wondered why she doesn't just let her squat on. Not that I care enough to ask.
