So it was an interesting meet, judging was much more even, but still some odd stuff. They are supposed to separate the Novice, 12-14 years, from the seniors,15-18, for the medals, but the organisers decided not to. Even though the girls are divided this way at provincials. The coaches didn't know this until the last rotation, it was a total surpise to the girls. They would have all placed better, but that is life.

BBB changed her competition stream this last month, she has to train less as her scoliosis is causing her issues and in the scolaire reseau they can not train more than 9 hours, so she is now doing 8 hours per week. Hoping this will moderate her symptoms and still keep her happy competing. She uses the same routines with a few changes and also gets to compete tramp, YAY!!!

Here are her scores, they'll mean nothing to you.

tramp 11.0
vault 11.35
bars 12.00
beam 12.15
floor 11.35

Tramp, her score was low, or so we thought, her routine looked okay, but she has only been practicing it for 2 weeks. She got a 3rd place medal in the 12-18 age group. A very happy girl as this is the first medal in quite a few years. She loves tramp.

Vault, well she got over it.

Bars, the coach found out during the meet that all the girls had t oadd an extra swing to their routine or get a 0.5 deduction, so they all had to change their routines in the one touch capital cup warm up, ridiculous. She got hung up on her grip on the low bar (oops I missed the first bit of the routine) but the rest was well done. She got a 12 and placed 7 and got a ribbon. Medals only go out 3 places here.

Beam, she has had to take out her BWO due to her back pain and so only did one acro, fairly solid and stayed on, she placed 7th here too. Another ribbon

Floor, she had added a back extension roll for a bonus of 0.3, but got deducted 0.5 for it! Go figure. Also the coach found out that every girls on our team was deducted 0.5 for not having a cartwheel in the routine, WHAT???? FIrst we'd ever heard of that. SO all their scores were low. The BER will be left out for the next meet and the cartwheel will be going in.

She came away very happy and she had a great team experience. One of our girls who would've placed if they had done the normal age group split didn't, and they were sad for her, but they were lovely and supportive, and you know how much I looove team spirit.

She has her last meet on April 4th and may or may not get to Provincials as she will only have done 2 of the 3 meets. Regardless of that she is happy and feeling positive about the changes.

How exciting for Bigger Bog... Nice Cat Leap on beam and I also like her final pass on floor.

I bet she is thrilled with her medal! Good luck in the next meet..

CONGRATULATIONS! Nice to see her being rewarded a bit for all her work!

She is beautiful to watch, especially on beam. Rayna (who refers to herself as a tank!) is jealous of how pretty your daughter looks on beam. She wants long legs, but isn't apt to grow them, lol.

Thank you for sharing her lovely accomplishments with us! We're proud!

That is a bummer about the last minute changes:eek:, but wow she looks so graceful and has such nice control! Congrats to her!

Great job, bigger baby bog! I just love watching her! It's also really cool to see what they get to do in your 'system' there in Canada. More fun stuff on bars and not so many dang kips. And tramp---she looked great! I like that middle split jump thingy (sorry, still uneducated here, after 4 years of gym--DUH!) that she did on tramp. Nice & high! She's a trooper and I am really glad she is having more fun w/ it now. :D

Thanks all.

Yes this system is way more fun for her. Less hours in the gym and way more choices of skills. It is bonus based,so the girls can change their routines all the time. You see a wide range of skills and it really does encourage the older gymnasts to stick with it. Plus there is that fun music to keep them in too.

The other fun thing is that if you do all 3 qualifiers (she missed the first) you can qualify to provincials on anythng from 1 to 5 apparatus, gymnasts in her group are considered event specialists and can compete on all or any they choose. This is great for girls who have injuries long term or who just hate an apparatus.

The provincial system was just too much for her, she could never train the mega hours the other gyms do and with her residual issues from injury could not really be the all rounder she needed to be. She was so happy yesterday as the playing field was more even, with a few hiccups.

She only has one more meet and then on to the fun stuff that summer brings. Though I imagine she'll stay in this reseau as long as she remains in the gym.

Tramp does look like so much fun! That's awesome that she got a medal.

I'm glad that she is finding a happy place in gymnastics. Are the summer hours still limited? I know you said you are all very active in the summer, so that would be nice.

My girls will go to camp for two weeks, lots of hours there, they will probably train at their own gym a few mornings a week. The hours are restricted during the school year, but really most gyms in this league do not train mega hours anyway. It's really like extended rec for girls who have given up on the big leagues. That is why it is fun and relaxed.
