Wow. Just read the start of the other thread. Wow. Yuck. Disgusting. Poor girl.

Just a non-gymnastics specific thing about YouTube:
(I'm not a lawyer)
When you upload a video to YouTube you give them non-exclusive rights to display that video. When I last read their terms and conditions, this explicitly included the possibility that your videos could be put on compilations, DVDs, whatever and sold for profit (pay for view) etc.

This is why people wanting to make money out of short films etc. need to think carefully before uploading stuff to YouTube. It's not fun signing your rights away. Put can be good publicity etc.

It is entirely OK according to YouTube conditions for someone to embed YouTube videos in their site and make people pay to watch them.

This is separate from rights to broadcast etc which I know nothing at all about.

This also doesn't mean that I think any of this is reasonable, sensible or morally OK. I've also never been to the gymnastike website. It sounds horrid.

Yes that is 100% true. I think that most gym parents who post their kids stuff do not expect this to happen. Even though they should.

Also it is possible to make a decent living of posting videos to youtube, this is also something that many gym parents do not realise. The monetisation of youtube videos is a massive, and lucrative business.

Agreed, to both.

I think almost no one has read the conditions and realises what they're agreeing to when they upload their videos.

Be sure to "unlike" Gymnastike on Facebook, too, if you intend to boycott. And also unsubscribe from emails/cancel your free account. I would sure hate it if it were my daughter in this "uncomfortable" position, I can't even imagine how that would feel. It was in horrible taste and they should be ashamed of themselves.

I never agreed with their paid content or their mafia like enforcement of their NCAA rights, so i wasn't a paying customer. But it is very unfortunate, because I think they offer some good (free) publicity for the level 9s/10s, including my dd at Easterns. They cover our home meet, too. I think on an individual level, the people on the ground covering the meets are good people, and dedicated to recognizing the gymnasts and the sport. This doesn't change my mind about boycotting, just saying that it is too bad that the decisions from the top are so amoral.

I've never heard of gymternet before! Just visited and it looks great--bookmarked for future visits. I never subscribed to gymnastike (hate that they have subscriptions!), but I did unfollow them on twitter and unliked them on FB ;-)

Quick digression - how does one pronounce "Gymnastike"? Every time I see this word I struggle to read it.

Is it...

gym-NAS-tyke
gym-NAS-teek
gym-NAS-tick-uh

Sorry if this is too petty of a question in the midst of bigger topics - just bugging me!

"gymnastidiots" or maybe "gymnas******". regardless of who it was that they posted links about, these "journalists" posted links to an underage girl"s photos that displayed her in the buff. and whether these photos had been photo shopped or not, this girl was underage determined by the victim to have been taken when she was, in fact now, underage. this is called "child porn".

gymnastike is a gymnastics site for kids and coaches. but according to my reliable sources, mostly kids, teenagers and college gymnasts of both sexes (and only God knows how many dirtbags). and this site posted links where viewers could view these photos of an underage minor in the buff. and for all the other minors to see. and then all the like minded dirtbags like gymnastike spread these links/photos over the world wide net. just imagine where they are now and in how many thousands of places. think about that.

i believe that USA Gymnastics will not only sever ties with these morons, but will also never allow them credentials to a sanctioned event ever again. and i believe the club owners and coaches will sanction them by not allowing them in their gyms any longer. i believe that this site is now dead in the water as it should be. and to simplify, what they did is analogous to a club owner taping a playboy/playgirl center fold photo on their entrance front door under their sign that says "welcome"! but apples to apples, that centerfold would be of one of their current athletes. despicable is what it is.

Just another site that people may be interested in.
Doesn't offer as much 'original videos' or content about gymnasts from outside the US.
But it would be a good site for younger gymnasts up to older ones.
www.tripletwistgymnastics.com

It has some fun interviews with gymnasts. Elena Arenas is doing a blog every so many months or something about her journey through Junior Elite (to in her mind hopefully the olympics, but you know, wherever gymnastics may take her)

So it just has some fun things to read on it and would be a site that you could let kids on without monitoring them.

Oh I like the triple twist blog!

Wasn't she the one that did an assignment for school on gymnastics, only for her teacher to haul her in ready to fail her for plagiarism. Her assignment was word for word the same as a post on- her own blog :)….

Not making a judgment call one way or another, but the "CEO" posted a new apology on Gymnastike if anyone cares to read it.

I read it.

It screams of "We really need to make a big apology because everybody hates us.". I am still done with them. Hope their loyal staff can move on and find a new site for their hard work, one that does not take it's star performers privacy so lightly.
