As some of you may know, my DD, level 6, had a wrist (TFCC) sprain that kept her out of skills practice Nov-Feb. She healed well, and went on to compete three meets and score high on three events. She never competed bars. Her coach required she have solid giants and CH to handstand, and she is just getting these skills back now (she had them-- learned/competed them in TOPs).

I don't even know if her coaches would let her, and I'll talk to them too. Curious though if anyone knows if there is any way for my DD to compete states? I know injury petition dates have passed and she doesn't have the minimum score. But I also know 6 is a small level, she has won a state champ every year until now (bars last time!), and she has worked SO hard post recovery. I just feel for her. Is there anything to try? :(

She'd need to get the qualification score for your state to go at L6 - usually in the 32 to 34AA range depending on the state, which would be impossible w/ only 3 events.

However, you definitely don't need Giants or a cast handstand to score well enough on bars in L6 (one cast above horizontal will get you full start value and then there is just the normal low cast deductions for not being at handstand), but if her bars is otherwise good (sounds like they are if she was state champ)
her getting a high 7 or low 8 should be no problem and it should definitely be enough to get the qualification score and she could go to state if her other events are good. Would her coaches consider allowing her to compete a watered down bar routine for the sake of qualifying?

I 100% agree with the above poster, my gyms level 6's do not do Giants or all the way to handstand casts. I think she could go as an event specialist if she wanted to just compete an event, I'm no expert on that though so I may be wrong as to whether you can do that in level 6. I know you can in upper level optionals and xcel but I'm not sure about level 6.

It depends on your state. We just had Texas level 6 states a couple of weeks ago, and to qualify to the state AA, you needed a 34. But you could also qualify on individual events by getting at least a 9.3 on that particular event. I'm not sure if it required a petition, but we had a girl on dd's team who broke a finger before the season and was never able to compete vault or bars. She did compete beam twice, but scored on low 9s both times. She still qualified to state on floor. She only competed floor at state -- she just saluted at each of the other events in her rotation.

I don't believe L6 has event specialists where I live, but even if they did it would be too late to even try. Our states are next weekend and the registration deadline has passed. I know at my DDs last gym there was a girl that routinely won one event, placed on one event, and routinely scratched two. The coach let her compete the AA for one meet with watered down stuff to qualify for states, so she could have a shot at her good events at states. I think that's the only way here.
