Hi all,

My daughter had her very 1st competition recently. She competes at level 5. The Judge told her that she was over the time limit for her beam routine. Does anyone know how much this deduction is? Is it a fixed deduction or is it incremental (i.e. the longer she is over the time, the higher the deduction will be)?

Thanks. Still learning here.

I always tell my dd, it is better to slow down and go overtime, then to rush and fall. They only deduct the .1 once, whether you are over 1 second or 1 minute.

Agree...better to be overtime than rush and mess up. I think DD has been overtime, even just a tiny bit, at every L5 and L6 meet she has competed!

Rhythm is very important on beam. Once you have them going to a beat...you can just speed it up.

True, Alexgymmiemom...I have seen routines that are way too slow. DD needs to speed up just a smidge, but I don't mention it anymore because I don't want her worrying about it.

It's about rhythm...not speed. Get them to feel the beat and they'll get in this crazy focused "zone".
