So we decided to cancel the competition this weekend. It is just not going to happen. His coach and I also decided that he will only start competing again if he is feeling comfortable again and ready even if that means missing nationals and World Age Group qualifiers the coming weeks (and so that will most likely mean missing WAGC in autumn as well) He does feel sorry for it also for letting his synchro partner down, but it is just the only real option. We increased PT to twice a week now. Hopefully he will get better soon.

I am sorry to hear this but it really sounds like the right decision. I hope the PT helps and he is feeling better soon.

Do you let your gymnast take painkillers? And if so to get through training? for competitions only? DS ( 11 yo is in trampolining at the highest national level.) is having a nagging foot injury which basically prefents him from training on the trampoline ( PT says its because of hyperflexibility plus growth plus high impact)

Past week he could barely walk and couldn't jump so he only did strength and flexibility training. First competition is on saturday ( not the most important one this one but qualifiers for world age group competition in november are coming up in a couple of weeks. )

Would you give your kid painkillers to sort of get through training and competitions?
If you need to be on pain killers then you should not be doing gymnastics!!!

So how did all this work out. After the two weeks rest he started jumping again and it immediately was very painfull. But his physio told him it was ok, nothing was really wrong and nothing could go wrong, scans were not necessary and he could just continue. The following weeks it got way worse untill the point he could not jump more than 2,3 turns and also walking and daily life was painful. He jumped another competition, a national qualifier, with braces (regular brace, x brace we ordered, compression socks) , got third place (but some others fell and his scores were nowhere near they were before) We finally got a sports doctor consult in, even though his fysio said nothing was wrong and it was absolutely not neccessary. Sports doctor got x rays and ultrasound, and diagnosed him with severe severs, and also trouble in his ankle because of compensating and foot immobility (well, hard to explain something like this) Verdict: 3 months rest from trampolining, The day after the verdict he went to Germany for an international FIG competition and was allowed by the sports doctor to do so on painkillers. With painkillers and braces and an adjusted routine he got into finals, 7th place. And that was it for the season. So now he will miss out on Nationals and also qualifiers for World age group competition. We found a different physio who is taking it way more serious, and also took him to a pediatrist who gave him insoles. Now a long holiday and than he will start rebuilding with the new physio.

I am glad you finally got a diagnosis and treatment plan. I am so sorry about Nationals and WAG :( I hope he has a fantastic holiday and the physio helps!
