:( Last week at practice DD fell a short distance off the rope. She said she felt her hands slipping so she let go to jump the rest of the way down and landed right on her heel. She has been c/o pain in her heel ever since. Coach felt it was a just a deep bruise. There was no swelling, no visible bruises so we kept putitng it on ice. It would feel better and then she would go to practice and it would hurt again. A couple times I picked her up and her foot was all bandaged up. They didn't allow her to vault, did minimal floor routines, most work was on tumble track, no landing from bars. They've had a lot of practice because we have a meet this weekend and States next weekend. Because she never complains we skipped practice today and DH brought her to where I work, an urgent care center. They did an x-ray on both feet and think that she has hairline fractures in her heel. Because of the growth plates the Dr said it is difficult to say for sure but he doesn't want her to compete this week and most likely next week for states. Of course it is a holiday and the Ped Ortho office is closed so who knows when I can get her in there. But, it seems like her season has ended prematurely. The meet this weekend is our gyms meet so she can come be a cheerleader, but she had a special meet leotard and was looking forward to it. Wow, I am still in shock!

Oh Blackie...I am so sorry to hear that :(. That has to be so disheartening for her. My thoughts and prayers go out to her for a speedy recovery. Give her a big hug from me.

Sooo sorry to hear about her injury. Ask your doc at the urgent care to call the pediatric ortho for you to get her in asap. He is right about being careful regarding the growth plates in the heel. I'm sure she is very disappointed---probably an understatement. Before you hang up the leo, see what the ortho says. I've seen many x-rays misread.

What a bummer, shame she will have to miss her own gym's meet! You're right though, she can come cheer her team on!

Poor thing!

:eek:Oh no! So sorry to hear your DD is injured! I'm sure she & you are very disappointed to say the least. You are doing the right thing being careful with the growth plate. Yes, you might want to get a pedi ortho to see her. I would have her rest until then. But if you see someone next week, they might have a different opinion for states. Just an off chance...but worth a try. If it's still a no go...it may be hard to think of now...but there will be other meets...other state competitions too. Your DD's health is what really matters. You are a good mom & are doing the right thing. Saying prayers for a quick recovery. Sending a BIG CB group hug to your family:grouphug:. Her team will have the best cheerleader at the meet this weekend! Our gym lets the injured teammates out on the floor b/c they are still part of the team. Hope your gym does too.

Oh no. I hope she gets better really soon. Poor baby. Sorry she has to miss her meets. :(

I'm sorry to hear about the injury, pls tell her we are thinking about her!!

Very tough timing, but I am glad they know now that she needs to pull back and rest a while. Kids bounce back very well if they are determined, I know!

Tell her we are sending all our healing fairies her way!!

Oh Blackie, I am sorry to hear about Lil' Punkin's injury. I am sure she will bounce back quick. It must be hard for her to miss her State meet though! She has years of State meets left in her gymnastics career. It will be fun for her to go and cheer on her team~

Good luck - let us know what the Ped Ortho says.

Oh - I am so sorry to hear about her injury. What a bummer !!! How is she holding up? Hopefully it heals fast so she isn't out too long.

:( sorry Blackie:(:(
I hope she recovers quickly from this injury.
Our team has been out 6 of our girls because of breaks in the feet or wrists.
I am sorry she will be done for the year:(

I am so sorry to hear about DD's injury!! The timing of these things just stinks sometimes, doesn't it? I'm sure she's disappointed, but she can still go participate in the home meet, albeit as a cheerleader!

I sure hope you can get her in quickly for an ortho. appointment and I'm so happy you are taking it easy with her and letting her rest. We had a mom last year who forced her daughter to compete with stress fractures in her feet all season. It was a horrible situation. The poor girl would just hobble off the floor and her feet were always bandaged up. Don't know whether or not she ever healed, she left our gym at the end of the season.

But back to YOU! Keep us posted on what happens. She does have many years left and this is just a blip in the road!

Good luck!

-Lynn

So sorry to hear about your dd's injury Ouch. A big bummer for her to miss states ,but she did end her season well with getting in the 36 club !Praying for a speedy recovery!

I'm sorry to hear about your DD's injury! I agree about taking her to a ped ortho asap. Let it rest & heel, she has lots of years and lots of States ahead of her! Bummer though about your meet this weekend!

Blackie,

Read your update on Grannys L8 thread. That is such a hard place to be in. Of course she wants to compete at States, she has worked so hard all season. It is hard to see the long term when short term is the way little ones (even us big ones) see things.

Sending you lots of calm vibes and hope that you can make the decision you are at peace with. Go with your gut. Lots of healing vibes to your DD as well.

Any way you could get a second opinion from a pediatric (or adult) sports medicine specialist this week before states? Probably not likely, but you never know. Hugs to both of you.
