When my dd does her front handspring she takes like an extra step instead of just sticking it. She says she just has too much power. Her coach hasn't really said anything on how she should fix this, any ideas?

the coach hasn't said anything cause in the scheme of things it's not that important and it will fix itself thru practice anyway.:)

She is however getting a deduction for it. She needs to use that power to do a rebound and then stick. With a front handspring her goal is someday to be doing front handspring front tucks, and front layouts and much much more. So it is great that her front handspring is powerful, but she needs to learn to transfer that power into something other than an extra step- such as a rebound.

Take less steps. You are allowed 1-3 steps in the compulsory routines before the tumbling. Your coach may not agree with this, but we start all our girls tumbling from 2 steps, that gives us the option to take them up or down a step if they need more power or less power in order to perform the skill as desired for the compulsory routines.
