The line-up has been announced today and it's a really good one! Lots of very elegant gymnasts - Roxana Popa, Larisa Iordache, Asuka Teramoto... and some good specialists like Ruby Harrold. Elisabeth Price is going again and she was great last year.

The men's line-up is great too. GB have Danny Purvis and Sam Oldham, always 100% committed and great fun to watch. Then there's Gonzalez, Verniaiev, Lithovitskiy, Orozco and Yamamoto. So again very elegant gymnasts.

This year the British espoir championships are being held alongside. Such a nice opportunity for them and we have some girls competing so will definitely hang around to support and enjoy that.

I can't wait. DD and I had a lovely weekend last year and it's the perfect pre-Christmas treat :)

Would be great. I was talking to a lady in a bank call centre yesterday telling me she has tickets grrrrrrr ! Lol

I'm sure you could still get some Margo and it's not a massive area, quite intimate actually, so even the top tier still has a great view. Not at all expensive either!

Flossy does your DD not train on the weekend then? Or is she granted time off for these comps?

Are they having two Espoir champs this year then? Will 2014 be March or November next year?

It's the English Novice champs and the veterans this weekend. The EN is a new one so it'll be interesting to see the standard and who's going..

I will be interested in the Novice too, much more achievable for my club that Espoir !

we aren't - we have had too many comps recently, but I would be really interested for next year to maybe see some youtube stuff and placings.

Just read the rules again seems that there is no restriction on who can enter the novice, except that they can't be doing compulsories. I would think that might lead to more able gymnasts competing at lower levels.

I think they have an intermediate section as well? The English gymnastics website crashes my browser (as does the w mids one ), but I'm sure I saw an announcement that the novice section is full but they are still accepting intermediate entries?

looks like Level 5/4 would be about novice if no giants/handspring vault. Standard will probably be similar to Wiltshire open I would think?

yeah, hmmm, Wilts open the level 5's were gianting and flicking on beam, but then we have had tthis conversation haven't we........

All those sites crash my laptop (its the plugin, I have to stop the script running) but they are fine on my tablet.

Yes of course dd trains at the weekend, lol, but no-one is going to mind her going up to watch gymnastics and support her team mates. She rarely, if ever, misses practice for parties and has missed out on school events and family ones for gym, but the girls are actively encouraged to watch national and international level comps if they can. She'll probably wear her club tracksuit and have a banner :) We are going on Saturday and coming back on Sunday, so she'll only miss one session and comps are over. Several of the coaches will be going and quite a few gymnasts went last year.

My friend's daughter is competing at the English intermediate tomorrow. I was going to go and watch, but my son has a birthday party so I can't. I'll be really interested to hear how it goes though. It's a great addition to the competition schedule. My friend's dd has been doing national grades and is hoping to do challenge cup next year. She's a lovely gymnast and entirely responsible for my dd's involvement with the sport so I love that she has a chance to shine.

I don't know what the espoir comp situation is for next year to be honest. I just know that they are competing in the evening session of the World Cup. Usually it's a separate comp and then they do apparatus finals during the British champs, I think, but I don't have an espoir myself, so I've not followed it that closely.

I am going to the world cup! our gym is going up as a big group of about 60 of us because we have boys competing in the British on the Sunday so we are making a weekend of it! as for the travelling up we are all flying, its really not that expensive to be honest as well!:D We are all very excited at our club hahhah

We flew last year, but couldn't get cheap flights this year, so we're going by train, which was much cheaper than I thought it would be :)

How lovely that you're going up to support the boys. 60 of you should make some noise! I suspect having watched the world cup and then stayed for the espoirs dd and I will chill and shop on Sunday and, knowing her, not necessarily in that order...

I hope you have a great time.

It would take us forever even to go by train! hahah, and will only take us an hour by plane, im pretty sure we are filling up pretty much a whole plane just us gym lot hahah! we are there all weekend watching espoirs on friday then world up and espoirs on saturday then our boys on the sunday so will be in the arena pretty much the whole weekend! we are all wearing onzies on the saturday (don't even know why :/ ) for the world cup hahah we are going to look so silly but oh well :L should be a good laugh!!
