Right,

P&F's gym are in the process of designing pits.

We are unable to dig down so they will have to be constructed above ground.

We have looked at loose foam pits (with tramp beds) and the gymnova system that @marie83 posted her club having recently, but it would all have to be built up.

I remember reading about a system that used tensioned wire cables rather than tramp bed, but can't now find the info.

What would you guys recommend ?

Obviously budget is a consideration.

Is the covered foam better than uncovered ?

Thanks so much for your help

The covered foam is more expensive than the uncovered foam but it also lasts a lot lomger.

It is more difficult to get out,of the covered foam and the kids can get buried.

All I can really say is our girls love our covered pit.
The pit it the same height as the tumble track so landing skills is much more realistic than into a foam pit with a drop.
You can also tumble on top of it which has been a real bonus for little ones learning flicks, somis, flysprings etc.
for vault and bars I think I'd prefer a loose foam pit tbh but the covered pit does make it easier to support/spot the gymnasts
For the covered pit you need to buy extra mats to go on top to prolong the life of the pit.
