Hi! My daughter had a meet recently. I don’t understand her vault score. The paper that she came home with says that judge number one gave her a 10.0 and judge number two gave her a 8.7/8.7. Her vault score was a 8.7. I thought scores were an average of the two judges but I must be wrong. Please help me understand how they score vault. Thanks!

There are two parts to vault judging: the "start value" of the vault, which is how much it would be worth if executed perfectly without any deductions, and the execution score, which includes the deductions. It sounds like your daughter executed a vault with a 10.0 start value (there's only one vault option at L2 and it starts from a 10.0) and then received an 8.7 execution score from both judges.

So the paper might look like this:

[Spot 1] 10.0
[Spot 2] 8.7/8.7

Yep it was the likely the Start Value, 8.7/8.7 out of a possible 10
