Well off to the orthopedic DR with DD today for her knee- hoping its the last time and she can go back to doing all gymnastics.

Of course like all gymnasts she has been tumbling on that knee and doing the leaps running around and doing stairs at lightning pace even though she isn't supposed to. she says it doesn't hurt. Let's see if that is the same story she tells the DR.

I'm hoping its back to full gymnastics as pain permits. I think some of the harder tumbling may still cause some issues but nothing to stop her from tumbling.

Well good news her knee is healing nicely - bad news he doesn't think she will be competing 100% by the 10th maybe for the 17th.

He is allowing her to do bars with dismount if there is no pain on dismount, beam if there is no pain, Floor without tumbling (dance moves and leaps) - floor tumbling can be practiced on tumble track with landings into the pit if there is no pain. Vault just simple jumps on the spring board to the floor to see if spring board causes pain. If no pain through to Friday then she can vault with landing in the pit. Then next tues if there is still no pain then can try some of the floor tumbling on the floor with landings into the pit if still no pain then the following week full on floor. For vault after next tues she can try the vault with regular landing if there is pain then back to landing into the pit.

Will allow her to compete bars and beam on the 10th if there is no pain with those from now until the 10th. if from the 10th to the 17th there is no pain for tumbling on floor and vault landings he may let her do all on the comp on the 17th but be prepared to hold off until the meet at the end of Dec.

She goes back on the 16th to re-evalulate.

Over all good news with good progression. Not fast enough for my DD of course but she is just going to have to slow down on wanting to add things in.

Good news! Your doctor is so specific too. Beth's just says "ease back into it. Let pain be your guide." He doesn't specifically say what events or skills she can work.

Our Dr has 2 girls on a competitive team at another gym in the area so he knows about how gym girls are and what type of equipment etc they have. He gave my DD a packet that has to be about 15 pages long with various exercises and gymnastic stuff to do to get back to where she can compete 100% over the next 3 weeks.

With daughters of his own on a team he totally understands how hard it is to keep the girs from not pushing themselves and he know if he doesn't give them something they are going to try things they shouldn't be trying. We love this Dr alot. Hoping that the next visit on the 16th will be our last though she was disapointed when he didn't give her the OK to do everything this time around.

I love your doctor too! That's great that she'll have exercises she can do that will help her recovery and help her feel like she's doing something constructive. (Our physical therapist said she loves gymnasts because they never fail to do the exercises.) Thinking good thoughts for the 15th!

At least it's progress in the right direction. And the upside is, when she can finally get back to full training, it is with the assurance that things are healed as they should be. It's so much better to be specific and safe than risk a recurrence or worsening of the injury. It's no fun right now, but so worth it long-term. And at least now she gets to compete something at the meets and enjoy the process and dust off any early season nerves.
Sending lots of good wishes her way that things will continue to heal well!

Sounds like things are coming along nicely. Seems she has an excelent Ortho who really "gets" it. Hope she is back on her feet and in that competition arena come the 17th. Best of luck to her. Keep us posted on how she is doing.
