You'll love this one. THose of you who know Bigger Bog Baby, BBB, know that she did not qualify for provincials as she had only done two out of the three meets and the judging gods were not on her side at one meet. You also know that she has to take a month-ish off due to muscle issues from her scoliosis. You also probably remember that I booked a trip for BBB and I to go to Vancouver and Seattle to see her BCFF who lives out there on the weeknd of the provincials. Still following? It'll all make sense soon.

So here is the ironic bit.....when I got to the gym to pick up Bitty Bog the HC came over and said "You'll never guess what happened" with a look on her face, I of course was imagining all sorts of new gym moves that Bitty might have got as it was a good look! HC proceeds to tell me that BBB had indeed qualified on beam and bars as a specialist and that they didn't know until now! OMG, to quote the valley girls!

Not even sure what to do or say now. I could probably move the trip around to go a day or so later and still fulfill the BCFF need. But I am not sure about going to a big meet after taking so long off, safety and injury come to mind, let alone the stress of her feeling unprepared ETC. I of course will be talking to the sports therapist to find out if this is a pipe dream before I mention it to BBB. She is diligently doing the excercises prescribed etc, but who can really tell if she will be okay . The meet is on the weekend of the 17th May, so a ways off still.

Maybe I should just say that next year is a better prospect, but who knows if she still be a gymmie next year. I really didn't see this curveball coming and I can't decide if it is good or bad, but it certainly is complicated.

Thoughts anyone?

Wow Bog!!! Great news!!! A bit blind-siding, I bet, but still awesome all the same! Well, the way I see it is since she qualified in just the 2 events--beam and bars, maybe she can "catch back up" since she won't have to really worry about vault and floor for now. And since it is just the 2 events it won't be as much stress on her body. Hmmmm, tough call, but I would go for it!!! Maybe talk to BBB and see how she feels and leave it up to her.

Good luck and keep us posted!!!!

Oh my gosh exactly. I think that if the sports therapist is okay with it, I would give the decision over to BBB to make for herself. It is wonderful to know that she qualified, but yikes, what timing for sure.

Good luck to both of you, hopefully it all works out the way it is supposed to. :D

Now that is exciting news!!!! As long as the sports therapist gives her the ok & BBB is into it...I think she's got some time to focus on bars & beam. All things do happen for a reason!!! Good luck with everything!!!

OMG Bog, that is great news!!! I say if her ST clears her for practice, then it should be a green light to go for it!!! BBB might benefit from substituting a few privates, to concentrate on her two events, for regular practice. A little one-on-one where she can go at her own speed can have some good positive effect and she can concentrate on the things that she wants to work on as well as working through the routines.

Also, a private has the benefit of getting alot of work done in a shorter amount of time. While I'm not a big fan of private lessons, in this case I highly recommend it if it's available. I just want to emphasize that I would do a private 'instead' of a regular practice so she doesn't put any extra strain on her body.

I REALLY hope this works out for you. I'll be sending the good luck fairies your way.

How awesome! What does BBB want do??? How does she feel about competing after a long rest? I guess I would take her lead and go from there....

But again, how exciting!!!! Can't wait to hear what she does - you know this only worked out this way because you decided to make other plans. :p

Well after a long afternoon on the computer and phone I realised that the cost of moving the trip by just over a day was about a thousand dollars!!! I talked it over with BBB and she says it's not worth that much money, plus one day less with her BCFF to compete against 59 other girls! Such a pragmatic little soul she is.

So we will go off on our trip and enjoy the fact that she did make it, maybe next year things will be better organised. It would be nice if they would actually told us how our girls placed at meets beyond 6 places as then we would have a clue if they were in the running.

Incidentally BBB is feeling a lot better and is hoping to go back to gym if the ST clears it, I think she is hoping a lot, but it's nice to dream.

Granny I think you are totally right, if I had been staying home that weekend she never would have made it!!!

TeamDad great suggestions, that really made it more possible to see how it could work.

Another great learning experience from the gym, sometimes I think I'm going slowly crazy from this roller coaster ride. Wheee!!!!

Don't you hate it when good news comes w/ a bunch of twists?

With this (whether she attends or not), BBB has a wonderful boost/nod of approval regarding her gymnastics skills. That, in & of itself, is a really nice bonus.

It sounds like it's up to the sports therapist if she can go or not. If you get approval medically, ask BBB what she would like to do. Even if she is not as prepared as the others may be for the meet, if she wants to go, and can go into it simply relishing the fact that she is there & not worrying/pressuring herself, then it sounds like a great experience. Later on in life, she'll just be proud of the memory of being there & probably won't care how she placed.

Let us know how it all pans-out. I am so happy for her! :)

I'm glad to hear that she got the invite to attend. It recognizes her hard work this year!

I hope she continues to feel better and that you both have an excellent weekend away!

What a bummer it toke so long to notify you that she did qualified after the poor thing was devasted.Any way a very big acomplishment for your dd!

What a shame they were so disorganzied & failed to notify you in a more timely manner!!! At least BBB knows she earned a well deserved place at provincials! Hope she has a fun & relaxing weekend away. Congratulations to her for a great season & a well deserved(although poorly timed) honor!!!

Sorry Bog, i was posting earlier, right about the time that you posted your update, so I did not see what had transpired w/ your decision.

Your dd is a wise soul. She'll have fun seeing her bff, and can be proud that she quaified for the meet. Maybe this will give her a nice boost of confidence.

Hope she heals up quickly so she can get back into the gym soon, seems like she's wanting to be there, which is great. :)

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!!!!!! T MADE IT TO PROVINCIALS!!!!!!!!!! Can I say that again????? HHHHHHOOOOOORRRRRAAAAAYY! She made it!!!!!! I know how disappointed she was not to, so now to find out she did - well, it is all great news. There was some reason that you booked your trip on that weekend, and some reason that you found out too late. Everything happens for a reason. SHe will go and have a wonderful time with her friend and can just dwell in the moment - SHE MADE IT! Now she can go off to camp, get stronger for next year - and make it again!! This may be motivation enough to stay in :D... We love her and our so incredibly proud of BBB - this surprise (whether it worked out perfect or not) could not have happened to a better kid. :)

What a wise girl you have. She has much to be proud of and she knows it! She will have a ton of fun with her friend! She really amazes me all the time. :D
