We have a little gymnast who just cannot master this skill, it's causing her to get upset and frustrated now. She can do a chin pull over standing on a block but when it comes from a hang she just cannot do it. We are working on chin ups and leg lifts etc, does anyone have any good ideas or drills to help her? She is quite strong on all other pieces so this is really holding her back! We call this skill a circle up, I think you call it a pull over, but not from a jump, just from hanging from a bar?

Frustration resulting from working hard but not getting the skill is just a good sign the kid is taking the skill seriously. Put less emphasis on the skill, and keep working on the strength exercises. Try adding some ther-a-band pull downs with straight arms.

lots of chin ups and leg lifts. Lots and lots with a tiny bit of support until she gets it. Then have a party for her perseverance

We call it a Long Hang Pullover in the MAG program. It's not really in the WAG program besides being a strength drill.

Allow her to try it in a tuck.

Generally we start these as from a stand with the bar at forehead height, then from a setting with the bar nearly at the height of their outstretched arms with some degree of elbows bent/flexion and then from a hang.

It will be done from a stand at the low bar, it's just she's so small the she can only just reach the bar, this is a required move in her level routine so there is no real way round it, we shall persevere then party when she gets it! Thanks everyone
