Has anyone ever been to the Wisconsin Dells Vacation Classic? Which is the best resort to stay at? Any restaurants close to the meet? Is there anything else to do in the area besides waterparks? How long of a drive is it from Milwaulkee Airport? Thanks!

Has anyone ever been to the Wisconsin Dells Vacation Classic?
**Our gym did this in 2010 and 2011, but are passing this year. The first year some of the girls just had too much water park on the mind to concentrate on the meet. Last year the flashing of scores was horrible. The electronic scoring was not working in our level 6 session so they used flip cards, which they never flashed out to the spectators, so for the most part we had absolutely no idea what our daughter's scores were.

Now the Harley Invite, that is another story, love that meet and the new venue. The only complaint I have is the weather that we always seem to get. Of the three years that we have attended I have had to drive home in a horrible snow storm that causes school to be cancelled the next day. JBS can you please order the weather that we had in 2010 when it was at Pius. It made for a much more enjoyable ride home that year.

Yes...fun meet. The meet is held at Chula Vista. It is a fine resort...it is not the biggest water park though. Kalahari is the biggest I think...that's the one all my gymnasts like the best. All of the resorts have restaurants...there are many others...but not sure if they are open in the winter. There is nothing else to do in the Dells in the winter except the water parks. A little over two hours...

Yes...if you do not want your kids playing in the water parks...I would recommend staying at a regular hotel. They did have some scoring issues last year...but I'm sure he will have that all sorted out for this year.

If you want to meet me...come to Harley! I'll be there.

We have been to the Wisc Dells Meet. and DD competed at the same venue when they hosted Region 4 Championships.

We stayed at the Chula Vista and the Great Wolf. Overall our kids like the Great Wolf Better than the Chula. Especially if you have younger kids.

We have done the Dells meet last year and will be doing it again this year. As a team we stay at Mt Olympus since they have an indoor waterpark and amusement park. The awards last year were terrible. It took almost 2 hours for awards and we couldnt even hear. My daughter missed both times her name was called because you couldnt hear. The event location is great. Its like a big bubble. Keep in mind kids are doing gymnastics because they enjoy it and they deserve to have some fun at meets/locations. We were luckly last year we competed Saturday morning at 830 so we had the whole day to play but the other level was at 6pm. They still played almost all day and then went back to their rooms around 3 for "quiet time" . So many times I read about parents making these meets like an college interview let them be kids. This was probably one of my daughter's best meets because it was fun and they got their "reward" by getting to compete and play in the waterparks.
We stayed at the Wilderness last year and we were not happy with it. Most of all the hotels are within 5-10 minutes from the venue.

We also did Harley and yes it was snowing so bad we didnt think we were going to make it. My daughters only complaint was that the music was too quiet in her session and the session next her the music was really loud so it was hard to hear.

I will make a special note to talk with our music volunteers this year about volume control. Also, please remember that the coach can control all of this by speaking with the meet director for that session at any time. We are always more than happy to make adjustments "on the fly" when a coach or team asks as long as they are within the rules.

What did you not like about it?

Why did they like Great Wolf better?

The wilderness is very spread out. Its quite a walk to everything. It took almost an hour to check in and when you did get to check in the customer service rep was not pleasant at all. I prepaid to have the birthday package done to our room, since our group was celebrating a birthday also that weekend and it was not done when we got there.
