Well gymnastics in Australia is not exactly a well oiled machine, we have struggled for many years.

Bringing in a coach who lives in another country (he never moved to Australia to take on this role, he just visited) was never going to solve the problems we have, especially not in 2 1/2 years.

The problems need to be addressed from the ground up. We also failed to qualify a team for the 2016 Olympics, Mihai was brought in to ensure the situation did not repeat itself in 2020, but of course it did. Because you don’t develop Olympic success in 2 years, you can’t change their training regime in a training camp a week before they head to an international competition and hope for better results.

Mihai is famous for “Brestyan’s legs”. His leg conditioning program, that creates powerful tumblers. But his gymnasts start working this program, from their first pre team training program. As you can imagine introducing it for the first time to gymnasts at 16, 17, 18 isn’t going to have the same effect.
