Our Premier, Doug Ford, announced details of "Stage 1" of Ontario's opening, which will start Tuesday, May 19th. The list of businesses that can open includes some amateur sports, including gymnastics:

Professional and amateur sport activity for individual/single competitors, including training and competition conducted by a recognized Provincial Sport Organization, National Sport Organization, or recognized national Provincial training centres (e.g., Canadian Sport Institute Ontario) with return to play protocols in place and no spectators, except for an accompanying guardian for a person under the age of 18 years.

This includes indoor and outdoor non-team sport competitions that can be played under physical distancing measures. This includes:

• Water sports on lakes and outdoor bodies of water

• Racquet sports such as tennis, ping pong, badminton

• Animal-related sports such as dog racing, agility, horse racing

• Other sports such as: track and field, car and motorcycle racing, figure skating, fencing, rock climbing, gymnastics, etc.

(emphasis added)

No idea if our gym will be opening anytime soon, but given this guidance from the government, they should be able to if they want. Obviously, social distancing and hygiene rules will certainly apply. No change rooms, no spectators. Hopefully they can open it up to team athletes, and help stave off financial ruin.

Ohio will be opening up gyms May 26 ... still waiting for the fact sheet to be posted with the REQUIREMENTS and RECOMMENDED BEST PRACTICES to see what all hoops they are requiring and recommending. It should be posted later today.

I don't think our gym will open until June and then, probably small groups, staggered throughout the day.

Child Cares and Day Camps can open May 31 ... with limits on the number of children per room ... and they are allowed to subdivide big rooms to allow more children as long as each room has at least 35 sq ft per child.
For Child Cares, they posted these room division rules:

They have set a child / teacher ratio of 4/1 for Infants with a max of 6 infants in a room (so with 2 adults)
6/1 for toddlers with a max of 6 toddlers in a room
9/1 for preschoolers and school-age with a max of 9 children in a room.

Very interesting, as you know Quebec is the hotbed of covid in Canada. Golf, and those types of outdoor sports, open this week. But coached indoor sports look to be well down the road. Based on the lack of containment of the virus I would be amazed if gyms open before September in Montreal.

Opening gyms, yes, but they specifically excluded gymnastics.

Yah because "volleyball and gymnastics present their own special challenges."
All the YMCAs in Ohio are opening us in stages - united, so all Ohio Ys are supposed to open the same things at the same time. Gymnastics will be in the last stage, but we have to wait until May 20 to find out the steps.
