I just read the updates, and it's a 9.5 at regionals to go to nationals for level 9 as event specialists. Level 10 is a 9.3 for a specialist. "Specialist category at Level 9 Regionals is allowed. The gymnast must declare as a specialist by state meet entry and can not compete in four events at state meet. Qualifying to Regionals requires a 9.50 achieved at state meet. Refer to individual state meet guidelines for state specialist qualifying scores. No petitions allowed. Entry fees for Regional competition remain the same as fees for all around gymnasts."

You are probably right about the qualifying score being from the previous year's state or regional meet.

Where are you reading that specialists are allowed at Nationals?

I didn't, I worded it wrong. I was talking about state to regional. But my dd's teammate won Vault at Level 10 Regionals and qualified to go to nationals to compete just vault. She was not top 7 or 8 AA.

In the past regional event champions qualified to go to NIT. When NIT was eliminated to make room for more girls to go to JO's, this option was eliminated.

This is for nationals, not regionals.

Yes, my post was in response to the above one (included in my post) when she said they needed a 35 to move on from regionals... Actually, I reread the rules and it is a 34 for 9 and a 35 for 10 for minimum scores.

To qualify to state, you need a 34 AA for most states. You can compete as a specialist if you have scored a 8.5 on the event during the season. Some athletes can petition to go right to regionals due to injury, either with a qualifying score from earlier in the season, or if they competed 9 or 10 last year and had the qualifying score then, but it must be 1 point higher than the qualifying score for regionals. In Region 8, if they are petitioning with a score from last year, it must be a 36 AA. Someone who competed 9 last year with the qualifying scores, but did not compete this year can petition to Level 9 regionals, but not level 10. At the state meet, they must score the qualifying all around or specialist score to advance to regionals. In Region 8 it is 35 AA, and the specialist score is 9.5. Most regions its 34 AA, I believe. I am pretty sure Level 9 specialists can compete at Eastern/Western championships, but I can't find the information to make sure.

According to R&P it is a 32 to qualify to states at L9 and L10 this is set for all states by USAG. It is up to each state to set qualifying scores for all levels below 9&10. In most regions, except region 8 it is a 34 to move on to regionals. Region 8 set it at a 35 in an attempt to decrease the total number of girls at regionals.
