I am definitely getting excited to see what Simone can do. I heard she was having a few mental blocks last month (from her Twitter), so I guess you never know. I am also excited about some of the rising juniors and to see what the current batch of seniors can do to step it up. Similar to the last Olympics, I can't imagine how the field will ultimately be narrowed. Some amazing gymnasts will clearly be left behind from the Olympics. I saw that McKayla Skinner was bringing back the Amanar, so I am wondering if she will make a go of it as well.

I'm over here being the weirdo wishing she wouldn't come back to give new girls who HAVEN'T been to the Olympics a chance, LOL! They only take 4 now....I just feel like someone else should get a turn! Maybe I'm a socialist??? They all just work so hard and I want more girls to get to go.... :)

Simone coming back now does NOT mean she will go to the Olympics. Maybe she gets injured, maybe she gets burned out, maybe she thinks it's no longer fun, maybe her coach leaves... Too many maybe to know anything for sure, especially for an event happening 2 years away.
Of course, the chance is big all those maybe won't happen and she does go. But don't lose hope yet

Things can change, but I am of the mind that Simone is one of the GOAT's in this sport. That is why I am excited to see what she can do now - what she is doing is special. From the videos so far, she's a freak of nature (and I mean that in the best possible way). She can do things others simply can't -- the skills take my breath away. I personally can't wait to see everything that she can accomplish. I love to see the new kids on the block as well. Best possible scenario for gym lovers is a group of highly talented gymnasts battling it out for a few spots.

You never know with injuries though ... this can be a brutal sport.

Well, it's a sport, so I think the best people should go, regardless of how old they are. That said, I'm hoping for more than just winning for Simone this quad. I want to see skills named after on every apparatus, pushing the boundaries of both D & E scores. Last quad was about keeping her in bubble wrap so she could do what everyone knew she could do. This quad, I would love to see her just really go for all the things she wants, and to do it in competition. I'm excited to see what she can bring to the table as someone who is more mature and has nothing to lose. :)

Oh gosh no! Maybe I’m mean, but if they can’t beat her, they can’t beat her. And if no one can beat her.. well of course I want her to go back to the Olympics. It’s a sport- the best should represent and win, and until proven otherwise she’s the best.

Yes, that is true! She is the best. And I would never hope she gets injured and can't go. I guess I just think of people that almost make a career out of going to the Olympics KWIM? (Talking across all sports not just gymnastics) and I think goodness you've been 5 times, let someone else go.

I see where you’re coming from... but this would only be her second trip, should she make it. Same as Gabby and Ali last go-round.

For me, if you are talking about someone on the fence, I do wish they would give the new people a chance; but when you are talking someone who is absolutely the best, then they should go if they want with no flack given (IMO). The point t is to have the best of the best competing, not just the best of the ones who haven't been before.

She was so fun to watch. It would be a crime to exclude someone who deserves a spot simply because they had been before. I want to see the best from around the world. I just wish they could somehow make the decision a little more objective. Points for scores at international events, D scores, large meet scores, etc. I know the team element makes that more challenging, but maybe give another bonus to those who place top 3 on particular events like world or nationals (isn't that similar to what the men do??).

But it is their career... I don’t get this at all. Why shouldn’t anyone pursue a career until they are ready for retirement?
