I posted almost 3 weeks ago about DS hurting his ankle the day before state competition and then after the competition we found out that it was fractured.

We went back to the doctor yesterday. The pain is totally gone, though there is still some swelling. He is out of the boot and into a brace now, which makes him happy. He still is only allowed to do conditioning for another 1.5 weeks - no tumbling, nothing where he would land on his foot. he is soooo ready to get back to the fun parts of practice. Luckily we will be out of town for part of next week due to spring break. Unluckily, the doctor said if we are walking a lot he needs to wear the boot.

It turns out that he has some extra bones in his foot. He has one on the end of that inside ankle bone. There is even an extra growth plate there. That is where his fracture was. He has another one at the back of his heal. The doctor didn't seem to think that these extra bones will cause him problems down the road, rather are just something that makes him a little more unique. :p

The good news was that he lost very little strength and range of motion in his ankle over the last almost 3 weeks. So, he won't have the longer restrictions on getting back to normal activity.:D

Glad to hear he's on the road to recovery! That is strange about the extra bones. But also very glad that he still has good range of motion. Is he going to need physical therapy?

they aren't expecting him to. He has some exercises that he is supposed to do at home 3 times per day; but overall the doctor said that since he had good strength and range of motion that he shouldn't need physical therapy.

Great news!!!!! If you are doing theme parks during your spring break you may want to look into one of those scooter tthings that he can rest his booted leg on and cruise with the other. It would make the boot more tolerable, him able to keep up and not put any unneeded stress on the healing foot.
