Proud Parent
I meant to ask my daughter's coaches yesterday but forgot. Can anyone tell me what the mobility scores are for USAG levels 8, 9 and 10? Also, how does one qualify for states, regionals and nationals for L9 and L10? Thanks!

The second question depends on your region for L8. But for L9 and 10 I'm pretty sure at this point all regions require a 34 AA at states to advance to regionals for 9 and 10. I haven't heard of any different systems. A little more complicated if we go into individual event specialists but that's a special case you need to enter as, doesn't just happen. The mobility scores for the optional levels are a 34AA at least one time.

This is from the USA Gymnastics website :: USA Gymnastics :: Junior Olympic Program Overview ::

Mobility score for advancement to next level: L7 - 31 AA, L8 - 34 AA, L9 -34 AA

In PA for L9 & L10, you have to get a 32 AA to qualify for states. I believe (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) it's a 34 AA for advancement to regionals and then the top 6 or 7 at regionals make it to nationals. (We're moving in December and I already packed the papers that had all that information from dd's gym handbook).

Thanks for responding!

Sunobo, does that mean that a gymnast could qualify to states with a 32 AA and compete at states, but still not advance to L10 the following season until they earn a 34AA? Seems odd to me that she could qualify to states but not advance...

Yes. They need to get a 34AA at least once to move up.

Regionals to JO Nationals is top 7 AA.

Regionals to Easterns is top 6 in 16 age groups. I believe they went back to the old rules in the West so it will be 8 age groups and top 16-7 depending on the region.

I think the idea behind that is they may qualify early in the season and have some time to improve before they get to states. Yes you could qualify for states and even with the right mobility score still not move up. Its up to your gym if they feel you are ready and can get the skills for the next level. I know of 2 girls that this is their 3rd year competing L7 because they are having some trouble getting the L8 skills they need to compete but they are getting the mobility scores. They are up training but are just getting stuck on a few L8 skills. It happens especially as they move up to the harder optional levels.

Thanks, cher! I thought it odd because at the lower levels (4-7), I remember girls at our gym not qualifying to states but advancing to the the next level because they had achieved their mobility score and had no trouble gaining the necessary skills to move on. I guess I assumed (wrongly) that at all levels the mobility score would be lower than the state qualifying score.

Mobility scores are set by USAG and scores to qualify for states are set by each state. While PA only requires a 32AA other states may have a higher score requirement.
