If anyone has any suggestions of good but cheap video cameras that work well in gym and at comps please let me know. Also any advice on good camera qualities to help me look would be very helpful. What do you use? Thanks.

low light ability is good. I have an HD cam which is small and compact but suffers in low light and at full zoom. Remember you could be well over 50 m from the action.

I use a Canon ELPH for video at meets and have decided that it is a poor choice. It only has autofocus. There is no ability to override its automatic focusing decisions. As a consequence my videos don't stay focused on the gymnast. So some kind of manual focus control will be a requirement for the video-capable camera I get to replace it.

Many of the modern dSLR cameras can take HD video, but if I get one of those I'm going to use it to take still pictures, not video!
