Why are there two State meets in one season? I don't get why some gyms do both and some only do one.

Some states that do a fall compulsory season have a fall states and then a spring states. I've only heard of this in a few states though (and only for compulsories). The season in my state runs from Nov-May for all levels (with regionals, etc at the end for optionals if they qualify).

As for individual gyms, depends on their training cycle I guess, and how the girls move up.

Our state has a fall and spring season for compulsory. Not that many gyms participate in fall season, although Pickle's gym does. We think of it more like a pre-season. A lot of the girls don't have all their skills yet, and don't compete all around. By start of spring season (January), they need to have all the events.

This year for fall season, Pickle did one meet, sectionals, and state. It was good practice for her, but every single meet felt very high pressure.
