... if you are willing to commit and work on details, details, details!

This is a very good point to make as well. Switching from Xcel to JO often means a temporary slow-down (could be for a few months to a couple years) in skill-acquisition to re-focus on basic strength, conditioning, shaping, flexibility, and perfecting basic skills like cartwheels, rolls, even just walking and kicking with proper form. This can definitely frustrate athletes who were gung-ho to learn new skills, and now find themselves back to basic cartwheels. But even Olympians still work on cartwheels.

Moving to JO is a change of mindset to perfecting minutia. The payoff for this comes later with the foundation to do larger skills, but that does take years. So the athlete needs to enjoy this mindset.

ETA: A common scenario in JO: Suzie can do skills X, Y, Z, and sometimes even P and Q decently well. Sally can do skills X and Y only, but does them to a high level of perfection and outscores Suzie at meets. At the end of competition season, Sally moves up to the next level and Suzie does not. Suzie and her parents are left wondering why. Coaches know that Sally has mastered the foundation for next level skills, while Suzie needs to work harder on basics or she will be setting herself up for continued sub-par form and not do well at the next level as skills get harder.
