Off Topic Tips for making a leotard?

I always thought the Jalie pattern ran pretty true to street-bathing suit sizing. I'd purchase my kid a size 7 bathing suit (tiny 9yr old) and that's the size leo I make her. I've tried making her an 8...but it looks too big/baggy. But for some of those tall, thin girls I'll make a slimmer...

Parents Home Gymnastics Bar - Your Thoughts?

No panel mats here, plenty of big couch cushions- as our sectional regularly gets stripped of its cushions. :-) The giant drills are just a handstand flop onto high cushions....just to regularly get used to the feel. Nothing forceful.

Parents Home Gymnastics Bar - Your Thoughts?

My DDs got a jr kip bar when they turned 6 for their birthday. I found it on craigslist for $125. The girls are now 9 and still use it quite a bit. I think it helped them get strong and comfortable with some skills. We're at L4 this year and it still gets used to practice jumps to high bar -...

Parents Hemming Warm Up Pants - Help!!

I think it's the fact that the pants are lined that it causing them to lay funny after you mom's hem job. I know from working with lined curtains, your prettiest bet will probably be a bit more complicated. Are the 2 layers sewn together? If they aren't, it's one less step...but you really...

Off Topic One more Leo :)

Don't need a serger! Just a decent machine with a stretch stitch...like a zig zag. I'd recommend wooly nylon thread. :-) Just do it!!

    WAG Chelsea Piers Winter Challenge

From CT - haven't been to that gym, but I don't see much fun in visiting Stamford. It is a short train ride to both NYC and New Haven, though.

    WAG Choreography?

From what I've heard around my gym, the optional routines are between $500-750. I believe it includes cost of music, beam and floor, and all tweaking during season. I'm not sure who they bring in - but i know that I overheard HC talking about gym graduate who went on to D1 school (stellar...

    WAG Mesh on Leotards

We have a very pricey Dreamlight comp Leo with a ton of mesh. I was worried and took a lot of pictures of the sample so I could pick up fabric to replace it when needed (I make leos). But when my DDs actually came in, I noticed its more of a power mesh- so I doubt to see any problems with it...

WAG Practice Level 5, Compete Level 4

My daughter is in a similar situation. She has all new L4 skills, except the jump to high bar. At our new gym they continuously work skills ranging from L3-L6 in her workout group. The fact that they care less about competition and more about skill building makes me and my daughter happy. I...

Parents Snapshot of the parent's journey through gymnastics

Getting ready to watch first meet ever- damn, there's a lot going on at one time...who's score was that?...why is Suzie doing her beam routine out of order while the coach is talking to her?...Suzie is listed 2nd on the rotation schedule, so why is she going last?...can I cheer?...awards are...

Parents Look what I made today!

I bet you could sell this set on Etsy like hot cakes around Christmas...$50-60 plus shipping. I began selling matching leotards for gymies and AG doll around last Christmas and almost wanted to shoot myself because they were so in demand. Go for it!

Parents Uptraining- how important and thoughts

I want to thank everyone for posting on this thread- it gave me a lot to ponder and weigh as we began to question different coaching philosophies as they pertain to our gymie. When it was all said and done, we decided that even though we loved the coaches at the gym we were at, their coaching...

Parents Need advice on competition hair for short hair

One if my DDs had a pixie cut her L3 year. We didn't do anything more than a little spray glitter to glitz it up. But as she grew it out, we did the "spiderweb" type style in the front to keep it away from her face and make her feel special (sisters hair was in multiple French braids so I felt...

    WAG Running

How's your diet? You could be deficient in some vitamin/minerals and that could be cause to some of the loss of stamina. Or your water intake? Exhaustion and headache are signs of dehydration....

Parents Is 4 years of compulsaries too much?

I attended a discussion with Jordyn Weiber...she did 2 years at L5, 2 years at L6 and then did L7-10 in less than 2 years! That really made me realize that repeating isn't the worst thing as long as the gym allows her to progress. :-)
