It sounds to me like they are doing 'stations' maybe each girl has a list of things they need to repeat, practice. Often times there is not the one on one for a long time when there is 1 coach per 7/8 kids. It also sounds like they are really working on form and strength and the new 'skills'...
I read through a lot of the posts here. Let me tell you something I've learned from being in this sport for a little while...the environment for parents is rough but you have to learn and adapt to it. My kids love gymnastics and have many big dreams like everyone else's too. I will continue to...
This sounds familiar to us. My daughter talked to her coach about balancing it all and the coach suggested taking one night off to get as much done as possible. This way it did not come from me, but the coach. The person she seeks approval in gymnastics from anyway.
This is an interesting question and it would bother me if it's constantly the same kid but also, at the end of the day, the coach may not even be seeing your athlete or your posts because of the social media algorithms that only have some posts appear, at least in Facebook. Sometimes the kid...
Thanks everyone. Our gym is ssslllooowwww to move kids up and at this point I'm nearly certain they'll have her repeat 3. She has her straight arm kip and has had it for a couple of months (she had a kip for a year now but not straight arms). She's tentative on the beam and not doing consistent...
It was Severs, then slipped off the beam, so she's been in a boot time for nearly 4 weeks and then she can easy back into gymnastics. Level 4 uptraining.
What would your gym do, or have they done, when a gymnast is uptraining and halfway through the summer gets injured and will only be able to condition for about 4-6 weeks? Our gym makes level decisions in August, meets start in late Nov., no level changes until the following Spring after States...
Thank you all. I clearly still have more to learn as a parent in this sport. It's an emotional roller coaster that I don't like. Rereading your comments, I see my options and what might be appropriate responses.
Good point! I agree with this in theory but they moved other girls up that can't kip yet even. So I would expect consistent treatment. But you could be correct nonetheless since she didn't make the move up cut a month ago. I'm going to watch and be patient and see how things unfold.
I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment. I even could foresee my child repeating level 4 as it seems to be a trickier level with important skills. But repeat 3 when she's got the 4 skills (although they definitely need work) and solid scores just doesn't sit well with me.
We spoke today...
Her straight arm kip and going over the vault table is fairly new, about 2-3 weeks so when they made level change decisions about 4-5 weeks ago, they had her stick in 3. She was disappointed but I could see their reason why (she was doing kips, but slithering herself up, couldn't get over the...
