WAG What is this drill working towards?

Sounds to me like they are working on an overshoot, commonly referred to as a bail. Basically, an upper level transfer from high bar to low bar. http://gymnastics.about.com/od/glossaryofgymterms/g/Overshoot-Bail.htm

MAG When to pull the plug and SWITCH gyms.

I have two basic thoughts on this subject. Both may be WAY off, but it's what came to mind ;) 1) Boys at this age are in the testing phase, trying to get away with what they can. Often times, a firm voice/figure is needed to stabalize the situation and keep the child on task. This coach's...

    Parents Need advice...

My opinion, talk it over with the gymnast. Make sure she realizes it is a step up in not only the amount of work required but the time of work also. My dd started level 4 about her age and she loved it. If she has a so-so year, you can have her repeat lvl 4 next year. The biggest thing for...

WAG Why do some kids rip or not?

From a medical standpoint, here is what I can think of: Callouses are produced from an increased friction to a certain area of skin, and the body's sense of need to thicken the skin to maintain an intact integument. Hence, thicker skin on the palms of your hands and soles of your feet, and...

    WAG Grips - very confused

At our gym, the coaches would not let the gymnasts use grips before level 5. Don't know if it is to get them used to working their hands, or if it is because the level 4 grips are dowel free, and they didn't want them getting used to grips without dowels since every level after uses them. As...

Off Topic Question not pertaining to gymnastics but for the parents

We got our DD (gymnast) her first phone this past christmas at 12 yo.... she is going to practice 4 days a week during school, and sometimes g-ma "forgets" to pick her up from school in a timely fashion, and requires a phone call reminder. The deal was I have access to her phone at all times, I...

    WAG Is this realistic?

My daughter started as a level 4 gymnast 5 years back in September I believe. She did great, placing first in every event and AA (of course) in her very first 2 meets. This continued all fall. They moved her to level 5 the following January, Level 6 the following June, and Level 7 the next...

Parents Do Cheerleading scholarships exist in College?

Yes, they do exist. Most colleges give scholarships that pay partial tuition (usually very little honestly), but schools with well known competitive cheer teams do provide full tuition scholarships. The University of Kentucky offers in-state tuition scholarships for sixteen of the twenty-one...

Parents Helping daughter get through a tough spot

My DD took a fall on a skill on bars when she was lvl 6, landed on her shoulder pretty hard. Although there were no physical injuries, her pride and confidence took a major hit. Same boat, she was afraid to try anything without a coach right by her, and when she would cry (she was 9yo) the...

    Comp scores :d

Congrats! Looks as if your coach was pretty close with the scores yesterday. BTW... using the springboard does seem to help with increasing those vault scores:p. I'm very happy for you. My DD's last level 6 meet is next weekend.

    Supplemental Clothing for Workouts

Have you talked to the parents of the other children? They might be willing to tell you where they found theirs, and it might be cheaper than what you may find online.
