    Parents Life After Gymnastics

My daughter gave up gym about 1 1/2 years ago while repeating Lev 8. She switched to pole vault, was immediately successful, and is now on track (no pun intended) to pole vault in college. I bought her a pole for $400 and people thought I was crazy until I told them gymnastics was $500/month...

Parents Does your child have a 'fallback' sport?

My DD doing pole vault camp this summer. It's harder than it looks :). Of the 9 students 6 are gymnasts. All that upper body conditioning is paying off.

    WAG Understanding the US streams

My daughter competes USAIGC Gold in region 7. It is exactly like JO level 8. The only difference is the number of training hours. My dd does 14 hours a week, typical level 8 JO is 18-20. Same skill fewer hours so the stay the same level for more than 1 year.

WAG Transitioning to Middle School with Gymnastics

My husband drove my daughter to/from school to pick up extra sleep/homework time. There are only so many hours in the day and our doctor said it is extremely important for gymnasts to get 8 1/2-9 hours of sleep every night. Also teachers who posted homework for the week on Friday night saved us alot

Parents Return to Floor after L4 Fracture... Help :)

My daughter had a L5 bi lateral pars fracture back in Aug 2014. She says vaulting and back tumbling are the hardest on her back. She went back to L7 and competed through May 2015, but the back pain crept back in when training yurchenchos for L8 so we have lessened her hours and switched to...

Parents What have you experienced with rehab after fracture?

It takes time to regain grip strength on bars too. My daughter has done the rehab circuit several times. Patience is important, and its how the season ends, not how it begins.

Parents Moving from USAG optional levels to USAIGC

Thanks Joy I was thinking that my daughter might be a Gold with a platinum bars. I think I'll call around and see how many hours of training a week local USAIGC gyms do for Gold. Our gym doesn't have a USAIGC team :(

Parents Moving from USAG optional levels to USAIGC

I guess I'm thinking there might be more flexibility in skills in USAIGC... however, I really know very little about that program. She wants to train new skills, she told me she wants to continue to compete, and she was a strong 7, bars are very strong. Keeping her at 7 at current gym wont...

Parents Moving from USAG optional levels to USAIGC

Has anyone ever had experience moving from USAG Lev 7+ to USAIGC? My daughter has had a back injury in the past and I'm considering the option to move her to USAIGC (gold?) so she trains less hours a week. Training Lev 8 Yurchenchos BHS BHS etc 20 hours a week in the summer just seems to be too...
