Parents Level 4 and 5 being pushed to make level 6

My gymnast competed last season level 3 and did an in-home mobility meet in August to score out of 4 and last weekend went to a different gyms mobility meet to score out of level 5 with very minimal time working on it. She is 7 and will be competing level 6 this season. Our gym does not move...

Parents What to do when the hours are too much?

My daughter is 7 and trains 22 1/2 hours a week (2nd grade) level 6 and tops. She does leave school early tues and thurs at 12:30 to go to the gym. At 2nd grade homework is not much of an every night occurance. We do have a good relationship with her teacher and have decided on this schedule so...

    Parents TOPS RESULTS....

I would hope and assume there's nothing fishy going on. We did find out our scores and I would ask for yours again if you want to know. We (our gym) had two diamond qualifiers and they never found their scores out. My gymnast tested as a 7 year old this year, made diamond and I made sure I...

    Parents How necessary is TOPS?

A lot of gyms add tops training in their normal level practices/conditioning so she may already be doing some. My daughter started training tops when she was 5 and finally tested this summer as a 7 year old. A good Tops program is selective with who they add to it, who they have test and is very...

    Parents 85!!!!!

That is a great score! Our gym has 2 8 year old testers and both scored great with an 86 and an 88 I believe! Definitely planning on those girls making national testing! Congrats to your girl on a great score!! Our gymnast is a 7 year old tester and scored a 60.33

    WAG Home Balance Beam

We actually have a folding beam and a raised 12 inch beam already but the raised beam is not the same feel/material as a competition beam. It's actually wood with a cover on it...we also have pads that wrap around it so when our DD is doing BWO or BHS she puts the pads on it. She is still young...

WAG To do tops training or not

When you say, not a "top" gym do you mean "TOPS" or a gym that is historically in the middle of the pack at meets? The reason I ask is because our gymnast was at a gym that did not have a TOPS program and wanted to start one with our gymnast along with a few others. We ended up moving to...

WAG To do tops training or not

If she is asking, I would say there is no harm in trying it. Have you spoke to the coaches? TOPS in my opinion should be an exclusive group that is highly talented. It takes alot of time and effort to excel in TOPS. My thought process is to not limit my kids' opportunities but it's up to...

    WAG Home Balance Beam

Hello All, We are looking to upgrade our balance beam at home without breaking the bank on a USAG competition AAI beam. The Beam Store (http://www.thebeamstore.com/8-ft-suede-gymnastics-balance-beam-with-raised-metal-legs-681) has one and it states that the beam is essentially a replica of...

WAG Question about coaches fees for TOPS and Development Camps

I agree, you should sit down with the coach and the owner of the gym to come up with a plan. My daughter is a 7 yr old tester and we have 2 8 year old testers (both made diamond last year). When our coach went to camp last year for having the diamond girls we fundraised for her. If the 8 year...

WAG Question about coaches fees for TOPS and Development Camps

I would petition your gym to pay the coaches fee. We had a fundraiser (hotel and airfare) for the coach to take 4 gymnasts to the Make it Right Camp in Vegas, paid for 90% of her expenses but the gym kicked in the coaches fee.

Parents Help me understand the progression

At the end of the day it should be up to your kid and how they want to proceed. My wife and I have the theory that we will give them every opportunity to succeed but it's up to the kids to go out there and seize the moment. We have more than one type of personality in the house and my oldest...
