Parents The saga continues - advice please

We had a similar situation at our gym where there was a 7 y/o on pre-team who did not score high enough at JO to make the L3 team. Coaches wanted her to take an extra year and perfect her skills -- the family decided against that and promptly moved her to excel -- where she has really EXCELLED...

    WAG Teammate Drama

As others have said, do your best to ignore it. We are having a mean girl issue on my DD's team, and as I advise her ... stay away from her, don't talk to her, don't mention her, and don't look at her. Take the high road - always. It's weird how often the apple doesn't fall far from the tree...

    Parents Opinions on offering incentives?

If my DD scores a 9.5 or above on all events at a meet, she gets a new leo. I really need to rethink this and put a, "for a maximum of three new leo's per season," or something similar :-)

    WAG I've been banned.

When I told my 7 y/o L4 that her gymnastics career would soon be ending because I could just not bare to watch the back walkover on beam in L5, she told me -- I guess your time watching beam is ending Mom :-(

    Parents Watching practice

I know how you feel! It freaked me out about a year ago when my DD (7 y/o) was moved to the L4 group and her practices went from 12 hours per week to 16. The first time I dropped her off, I did NOT like it -- thank goodness for the moms who did stay to watch in giving me text updates. Trust me...

WAG strength vs coordination vs flexibility -which is most important?

Our coaches say this as well. My daughter was started younger than most at our gym - -and the coach attributed that to her strength. Thankfully, shes done well with flexibility since then.

    WAG Eating before practice

My DD also has a very similar schedule to this -- minus the snack midway through (4 hour) practice (coach won't allow) -- so yes, she is always starvvvviiinnnng by 8:30 p.m. - but we manage.

WAG Tough Coaches at level 3

Just some encouragement - My young 7 y/o DD also competed L3 this past season. She had so much trouble getting the windmill in L2, I was afraid she would not move up to compete L3. After a few privates here and there and a lot of persistance on her part, she managed to make the required 36.0 on...

When levels have to split at a competition

Wow - I can't imagine trying to be at all the sessions our girls are spread throughout -- that would be about 16 hours... over two days!

    Parents Monthly tuition cost?

Competed L3 last season, working with L4's now. 16 hours week = $360 month. We have a booster club that helps with meets/coach's/travel, etc. $550 leo and warm up suit every 2 years, plus $135 for workout leo

    Parents 2006/2007 gymnasts

When levels have to split at a competition

My DD is also 7 and competes L3 -- she is the youngest on the team as well. We only had one meet the entire season where the whole team was together - at ALL the others, my DD was in the first session - with both coaches - by herself. Awards were always given at the last session of the weekend...

    Parents just need to rant

My daughter's gym also practices the "Great Divide" -- they even have an awesome 2nd floor seating area - that they will not allow anyone to use because it may "encourage" team parents to stay and watch more. Our gym created this "team chat" thing where the coaches can communicate special events...

Parents Higher JO hours in some areas than others?

Ours gym hours are the same as yours. Excel competes a few less hours than compulsory. We also have a 2-a-day program where the girls go 4-5 hours daily M-F. They work with a local private school.
