WAG Is this the norm for training in the TOPs, Hopes & Elite Community???

DisMom I agree that elite was used in the wrong term. However, only knowledgeable coaches and maybe some parents would know that. I have learned over many years never ever promise parents anything. No misleading or wrong words. The only thing I wanted to do is see where the DD fits into our...

WAG Is this the norm for training in the TOPs, Hopes & Elite Community???

CB I feel like I have to clear the air because many things in the original post was not clear nor true. I read every post and can tell you I read good things. Nevertheless, the perception of the truth is foggy. I as a coach of the gymnast trying out at my gym or any of my 11 athletes was...

WAG Anyone here any news on TOPs national testing results

She is 9, however late last night another email came through and they forgot to tally up the 8 year old vault scores, so all the results could be affected, so at a standstill right now they said we will receive a email today regarding the correct standings. I feel bad because I already told my...

WAG Anyone here any news on TOPs national testing results

I received the results today for my gymnast and most of my coaching friends got the results today as well. My gymnast made the B camp.

WAG How many hours do you train per week for Xcel?

We use Xcel as a transition level because we don't compete level 6, so our Xcel girls train 16 hours preparing for level 7 and score out of level 6. Level 7/8 workout 18 hours, level 9/10 workout 20 hours, HOPES/Elite/Tops homeschool 32-34 hours a week.

WAG difference between front aerial and layout dismounts?

Sometimes you need the extra skills in the routine to count towards required elements. Plus it's progressive. There nothing like teaching a level 9 how to do a back dismount because they reached their limit when doing front skills plus front dismounts start getting scary when they reach higher...

    What else can i do?

You should defiantly talk to your coach. This will also show your coach that you are willing to do more at home. I always tell my girls if you don't talk to me how would I know.

Sorry for repeating this topic: implications of the proposed 2013 JO changes

Gymbee97 great post. I as a head optional coach is having parents ask me to score their child out so they don't have to repeat level 5 or 6. I first educate them and explain to the exactly what was said in previous messages. The transition from 8 to 9 is very large and that can be a bigger...

Straddle cast handstand-- level 6 deduction

I believe the deduction is double the .8 which is 1.6 because the text says straight body cast.

    Cyst options... Surgery?help?

Hey I had a gymnast for through the samething. I would suggest to have the surgery and get it out of the way. You most likely do lots of numbers so your body will not forget the skills. After the surgery go into the gym condition work on flexibility do beam complex with no hand (ie kicks, split...

    Girls Crying at Gym

Me as a coach do not allow my child to cry at meets nor gym. I say, go to the bathroom and when you got it together you may come out. If that happens at a meet they will be sent to their parents. It's all about how you teach your gymnast, who are like you kids, to act in public. The perception...

number of tumbling passes in floor routines for level 9

I can say that's a smart idea; however, this could also come back to bite the coach at Regionals. Some judges may not like that because of composition. I know everyone thinks they judge what they see but where is the balance in the routine. Meaning you should show ideally, forward tumbling...

    Level 9 release moves

There is a big jump from level 8 to level 9 because of the bar change. I, as a coach, choose to start teaching bar changes in level 7 doing drills on the side. In level 8 I have my girls physically do the release with me spotting. This allows the girls to have 2 years of getting familiar with...
