    WAG Double Jointed... Help!

My dd is hypermobile in her thumbs...I don't think it will affect anything ( I hope), it's just odd so I wanted to throw it out there.:p She had to get an x-ray of her wrist a couple years ago and the Dr. said she had the largest thumb bones he'd ever seen on a child...:)

Off Topic Anyone come up with a silly rhyme?

How about; Black and green, we ain't mean, Green and black, we just attack! or Black and green, what a team, Green and black, it's in the sack!

WAG Keeping ribs in-how do you get them to do this???

I think you mean so their ribcage isn't showing? I think they have to work on pushing the stomach out in a certain way while pushing the rib cage down. It just takes practice - it's like a toe point i think. It just looks better.

WAG Making Money On A Team Program?

We pay $190/mo. for pre-team @ 3 hours per week. When my dd moves up to the next level pre-team it will be $300 for 6 hours a week. It's pretty expensive. Our gym starts competing at level 5 and the girls go 12 hours per week, and I have no idea what that costs. I know that the level 10 girls...

    Parents healthy savoury snack ideas

This is right up my alley! I love cooking healthy protein packed snacks for my kids! Is oatmeal okay? This recipe is good if so: Watching What I Eat: Peanut Butter Banana Oat Breakfast Cookies with Carob / Chocolate Chips And these are great - made with quinoa which is a complete protein: Get...

WAG Private or no private? That is the question.

We do privates every week, so my dd gets more time to work on her ROBHS and kip. I think if you have the money to afford it, then do it. It's a luxury and definitely shouldn't be necessary to get the skill. There are several threads on private lessons, people seem to be either yes or no on this...

    WAG Genetics vs. Training

We are lucky where we are. My dd has pretty tight shoulders and she is still in the top pre team group. They have a few different levels for her age, which she could have easily been placed in. She is working with a physical therapist and slowly is increasing her flexibility. I hope that in 6-8...

WAG how do you measure fast twitch vs slow twitch and why is fast better in gymnastics?

I think this is very interesting, but I have to wonder if genetics are the sole determining factor. From what i've read, most people are 50/50. Then, I read some statistics saying that marathon runners that have been tested can have up to 80% slow twitch or sprinters 80% fast twitch. These...

Parents It shouldn't be THIS hard!!!!

"Watch Me" is a great song my girls love to listen to on the way to gym. The Shake It Up show on Disney has a lot of great songs too.

Parents Upper Back / Shoulder Flexibility - Related to winged scapula?

Took my dd to a pediatric orthopedist today...i'm glad I followed my instinct. After several x-rays and a physical examination, she officially has pronated scapulas, and one of them is higher than the other! So it's off to physical therapy for us it seems. Luckily there is a p.t. close to us run...

Parents Upper Back / Shoulder Flexibility - Related to winged scapula?

Thanks for all your input! We actually rotate about 2 dozen stretches, I just haven't listed them all :) But the more the better, it keeps her from getting bored, so I like a lot of these! We have been doing to overhead stretch with broomstick, the french curls look interesting as do the...

    Mustafina Diva Love!

I'm sure i'm in the minority here, but I LOVE Aliya Mustafina. Her bar routine final and floor routine final were gorgeous. Some of the prettiest and most graceful gymnastics i've seen. And, I have to admit, I love her attitude. I feel great passion helps the sport and is necessary to stand up...

Parents Upper Back / Shoulder Flexibility - Related to winged scapula?

Thanks BlairBob for your input. She did some cuban presses last night and liked them. Wall slides are good too, we do them a couple times a week. I actually set up an appointment with a pediatric orthopedist for next week, I think that is the right type of doctor to see. She actually does has...

Parents Upper Back / Shoulder Flexibility - Related to winged scapula?

Thanks for your input. I'm starting to think we need to see a doctor. We have worked on the stretches recommended on the Apex, and she can now get her arms straight, which is great. She just moved up to preteam and I would like to know if she will ever have good flexibility...Have you noticed...

Parents Upper Back / Shoulder Flexibility - Related to winged scapula?

Here is a photo, this is after stretching 3x a day all of July until now. She can do a German hang, though not for long, I can check her shoulders in a handstand and take a picture too.

Parents Upper Back / Shoulder Flexibility - Related to winged scapula?

My six year old is having some upper body flexibility issues. I have read through all the old threads on here, and have talked to her coach for stretches to help. What is odd is that she has good lower body flexibility...I have heard that usually if a person is tight, they are tight everywhere...
