Flipfest is a lot of fun for the boys, and although they do work on skills there are lots of other "camp" activities. My son loves this camp, and I think he really enjoys spending time with his teammates and making friends. He enjoyed University of Illinois summer camp and also U of Michigan...
We are going...at 8am Friday (L6). I was hoping this meet would not require missing school, boohoo! Of course I made a hotel reservation for Friday-Sunday and didn't think to book Thursday night in case of an early Friday session!
I'm glad you asked about this, even though I don't know the answer! My son is working on the same skill and also has the coach spotting him. He talks as if he's going to do it with a spot for meets. I was kind of wondering how the deductions would work for that....
Hello, my son just started in the future stars program a couple of months ago and just participated in the 8 year old regional testing last weekend. What I have noticed since he's been working on this is more emphasis on form, strength, and flexibility. I think it has help him become a...
We changed from short to long last year. I think my son prefers long. He has one day of practice that he has to wear his comp shorts and will not leave the gym until he puts something on over his comp shorts...even the longer ones! :)
Yes, he had a fun day and learned a lot! I hope you all had a fun day too! His favorite part was trampoline, of course! Haha! Thanks so much for the feedback!
Hello, tomorrow my son will be attending a future stars workshop for the first time. He's in the 8 year-old age group and was a L6 last season. I don't really know much about future stars, except what I have read on our region's website. The email I received said this would be a workshop, and...
Hi, my son is a L6 gymnast...he competes as a 7 year old and this would be his first year to be able to go to regionals (Region 5). Some of the parents of older gymnasts have mentioned that in addition to a qualifying score, there is also an opportunity to qualify for the top 6 boys in each age...
It was an 11.0.....which is why I thought he may have not deducted for it? His last floor score was an 11.2.....we kind of thought the judge maybe let it go, otherwise it maybe wasn't worth much! Thanks for the info!
Hi, my region 5 L4 gymnast forgot something in his floor exercise at his last meet.....it was the little "jump" that comes just before the round-off back handspring. I was wondering if anyone knows how many points deduction that is? His score was still really high and some of the parents were...
Thanks for the information....just received word that this year there is a strict no-exception rule that the boys must compete as their age as of september 1, and that L5 requires kids to be at least 7.....my son turned 7 on September 2 and will not be allowed to compete at L5? He is devastated...
Thanks so much! I asked his coach to petition for him to compete at level 5, only because he has already learned all of the routines for this season. Crossing my fingers! Thanks again!
Hi, I am new to Chalk Bucket! I was wondering if anyone out there has had any issue with the new minimum age requirement for each level for men's competition? My 7 year-old competed last year at level 4 and moved up to level 5...however the minimum age now is 7 for level 5.....my son turned 7...
