Oh my this made me chuckle! Smart girl! ;)

Parents At a loss (mental block follow-up)

She is friends with everyone on the team and has sleepovers, texts, etc with almost all of them in some capacity. Two of her closest friends are the top two gymnasts on her team and one is usually top 3 AA in their division; she works hard and my DD sees her work hard and sees her reward. We...

I agree. But it's not registering with her for whatever reason (i.e. screw off at practice and then don't place in meets is not equaling put more effort into it).

Oh, I didn't really have anyone in mind. I am just so, so frustrated and conflicted. Of course no one can make me feel judged but myself. :)

This is what I actually wonder about - you don't think motivation or work ethic can be taught? I honestly don't know because I am just that way by nature. Which, of course, makes it harder to understand why she ISN'T that way! o_O

Parents At a loss (mental block follow-up)

My last thought as I am completely losing energy right now is that she admits she's not trying her hardest and she is sad every time she doesn't place at a meet. This isn't just her parents wanting her to do better - she wants to do better but has not made the connection that she's never going...

Parents At a loss (mental block follow-up)

This is not about skills or levels, I have tried to be clear in that. This is about her lack of effort. She ADMITS she isn't putting her all into it. Is it really that wrong to expect her to actually put her all into something that she says she wants to do? I have said to her and I think on...

It's not that we CAN'T afford it, but honestly, who wants to spend hundreds of dollars a month on something their kid won't put effort into? Gymnastics is not the first time we've had this problem with her by far (school is the most common place we deal with it). I do appreciate your input...

It is absolutely perfectionist behavior and I know it.

I am back. :) First, for those who said don't pull her regardless, I don't know about you guys, but I don't have a money tree to shell out $$$ month after month to let her just do "good enough" (which isn't even!). We have NO local meets (closest is 1.5 hours away), so every other weekend, we...

Parents At a loss (mental block follow-up)

I posted a while back about my DD's block over doing her ROBH and I am starting a new thread because it seems to be part of a bigger issue. She is ten years old and a Level 3. We are having a problem with her putting in "just enough" effort in things. It's always been a bit of a problem for DH...

Parents When the booster club buys your leotard

I run a leotard consignment business so I am clearly ok with used leotards as are all of the people who buy from me! As for the original question, I think you need to decide ho wit will be handled and then have an agreement to be given with each leotard and/or warm-up at the beginning. If you...

    Parents The dreaded mental block

I went to watch practice on Friday. BIG MISTAKE. It was all I could do to keep from diving off the balcony and telling her to just do it do it do it do it do it! I watched her adjust the mats 500 times, fake it if she thought no one was watching, or just stand there until her coach came...

Parents Does anyone else have a child who does not like to do gymnastics outside of class/practice?

If I had a nickle for every time I had to dive across the room to save the baby from a wayward leg during a handstand or cartwheel in the living room... Ugh.

    Parents The dreaded mental block

Well, the season has ended and she has yet to do her ROBH without her coach standing there. Even thought the coach doesn't even put her arm out, she will not do it if the coach is not standing there. Right or wrong, I am beyond frustrated. I am expecting she won't level up and I have no idea...

Off Topic What brand leotard is this?

No different than knowing something like car emblems. I know several but this one was new to me.
