I would say it's a normal thing to be a little scared of backwards skills on beam. Vestibular, in my opinion, comes in when its a fear that lasts long after getting the skill and is un-rational. Sounds like the coaches expecting her to just do it could possibly create a fear in the long run. I...
At meets I've seen coaches spray water between mats to keep them from slipping. Don't know how effective/safe this is or if it will even work between mats and the floor but you could give it a shot!
I just started at a new gym and have been given the level 4's. The gym is mediocre at best and doesn't have a reputation to win almost ever.
To my surprise, all my girls had all their level 4 skills already and now just need to start cleaning up routines for a season that starts in January. On...
If I took over a gym that had no emphasis on basics before, the thing I would focus on is to catch them up on strength and technique. Not skills or moving up levels.
Higher level skills come so much easier when the girls have a good base. Sounds like he's got some long term goals in mind if...
I am making a routine for a 13 year old Xcel silver gymnast. She is very tall and fairly graceful but is slow twitch in her tumbling and hasn't been doing gymnastics very long. Her dance is not great so I can't make it too fancy even though she does things very pretty. Any ideas for some music...
I would say W200 is not very helpful unless you really don't understand basics or don't have much experience coaching and spotting. I went a few years ago and did not get much out of it.
I did however attend the W300 course at the ranch in October and enjoyed it very much! I am fairly young...
As a coach it is hard when some of the girls don't show up. Especially when you plan things for that one kid that really needs it and they aren't there. Or when the week after you move to the next step and they are lost because they missed class. I would at least like the parents to text or call...
I'm writing a paper about gymnastics and am talking about burnout. I remember a while back there was a thread about how many girls are competing in levels 3 and 4 versus 9 and 10..or something close to that. I tried to search it but I can't find it. Can anyone help me out in locating this thread...
As a gymnast I did not compete on Sundays and my little sister, who is still competing, doesn't either. We told the gym/HC from the beginning and they respected our choice.
When our registrar signed us up for meets, she put a note at the bottom explaining that we would not compete on Sunday and...
Well since I started this thread I guess I'll clear up some things..
I have now been coaching at IGC for the past 5 weeks and would like to kindly disagree with the majority of things stated a few posts above me.
The Klaus family are some of the kindest people I have ever met. Bruno and...
Bhs/lay/lay is actually .3 bonus. You get .1 for the B/C connection and then .2 for the C/C connection. Page 172 in the Code explains connections of three or more elements.
Block blocks on the floor would help.
I don't know another term for them so I hope you know what I'm talking about.
If arms are bending on the second..or first..handstand then go back to conditioning. Core and arms.
In addition to these is a big one--Staying on beam is about finding your center of gravity. When you add ankle weights to training it confuses the heck out of the girls when they take them off. They lose the "on feeling" they need to have during beam.
