    Parents Question regarding pit

I am wondering about the pit in other gyms. Should gymnasts be hitting the trampoline at the bottom when doing high level flipping vaults or flipping dismounts off of bars? I think no. If this is happening, what needs to be done? More pit?? Thanks in advance.

WAG Is this actually a thing?

This sounds like gym we left where wall sits were punishment for flyaway fears (just one example of many). Conditioning should be just that, conditioning. To make you stronger. Wall sits were never going to help my DD get her flyaway back and in fact served to make her want to quit altogether...

WAG When does refusal to spot become a safety issue?

Coach p, I know she did drills and was spotted when learning. Then whacked her ankles one day this spring on layout flyaway and the downhill spiral began. I think coach did some drills again this summer & she started doing them again, but has gone downhill again after being told she is "not...

WAG When does refusal to spot become a safety issue?

Yes wall sits are punishment. Then she goes again does same thing and repeats the cycle. This is really hard on her and making her feel like she is not going to ever get it. She told me she tries really hard but it's just not working. She is very hard on herself in and out of the gym and this...

WAG When does refusal to spot become a safety issue?

Hmmmm, coachp I guess I thought spotting was a safety/injury prevention with standard recommendations within the sport....... I have tried private and actually made things worse with added pressure/comments about "not trying". I have read some of the posts about vestibular. Could it be...

WAG When does refusal to spot become a safety issue?

Well, I was hoping to update on dd10 (lvl 7) and flyaway issues that I asked about in the spring. It seemed to be coming back over the summer. But after some comments last week by coach that she "wasn't trying", we are back in the same boat with dd very upset, stressed out about being moved...

WAG Another rip question (re: DAT stick / Dermoplast)

Just another note from experience! ..... the kip seems to have it's own mind and comes and goes at will for a while! Also, when dd started with grips she had to relearn how to do it with the grips as well! Just a note to say the kip will get there and stay there at a certain point, but the road...

WAG Another rip question (re: DAT stick / Dermoplast)

Hi! My dd has used tape grips (probably during kip learning time a couple of years ago) and I also tried the NuSkin stuff, but it burned on the raw skin and also came off quickly. Last year I ordered HandEBalm when ordering grips from US glove. She is getting fewer rips as she moves up in...

Parents Helping daughter get through a tough spot

Okay, Coach P! Send me your address & I'll get her out by FedEx in the morning!!! :D I will warn you though, that she eats a lot!!:p:p In all seriousness, your approach is exactly what she told me when I asked her to describe what she felt like she needed. Now to see if the coach will...

Parents Helping daughter get through a tough spot

Thank you so much for all of the replies. Keep them coming!! I have been out-of-technology for a few days, so I apologize for the delay in returning to the thread. CoachP, you really gave me something to think about. My dd is NOT in the situation of it being something that has been going on...

Parents Helping daughter get through a tough spot

Hi, I just found this forum when doing a Google search on fears and coaches not spotting. I did find some threads addressing this, but they were somewhat old, and I'm not sure if they are the exact situation, so I wanted to give some background for my question. I titled myself "somewhat...
