Well I'm not too worried about what is near me. We are willing to drive an hour if we have to. I've heard amazing things about Orlando metro but they are a little too far from us. I have started doing some reaseach on gyms in the area... we would like a gym that offers elite, fast track...

No it says in our handbook we are not allowed to try out or look at other gyms or will be kicked off the team.

moving to the area. What are the best gyms that offer an elite track in the area of west Florida. Pros and cons if you can. Looking for a gym that offers opportunity and willing to work with gymnast. (Believing in them is important!) Looking for a positive atmosphere as well as opportunity to...

    Parents Switching gyms

Yes it's in the handbook no open gym at other gyms and no visiting other gyms to consider transferring or automatically off the team.. Which is what I'm most worried about. I don't know if other gyms would be like hey ur team girl tried out here

    Parents Switching gyms

How do you go about switching? Should I take her to all the choices to try out? So they go by meet scores or a trial practice? Do the gyms go and tell her old gym that she tried out? Our handbook said we will be kicked off the team if we transfer or even try. We aren't even allowed to go to...

    Parents Switching gyms

so we are on Lvl 3. We are thinking about switching gyms after this year because her current gym does not go past lvl 8. The coaching staff is limited to 3 coaches with experience. The team girls never seem to have room to practice including sharing the floor with Rec classes and cheerleading...

    Parents Backhand springs!

Yea originally after I saw the first one I was just planning on nod watching lol just the comments my dd says is what made me worry. I trust her coach completely I just wasn't sure what can be expected in the beginning. When she is not being spotted. She still is getting spotted and only gets...

What are some good conditioning we can do to help her get stronger for them?

That sounds similar to what the coach was saying about the handstand part she was saying she holds it too long sometimes and that is part of her problem. It just all sounds so confusing lol

    Parents Backhand springs!

Yea again idk what she means by falls because it's my 7 year old explaining them. Her coach hasn't let any of the girls do them except for two so far. I know she is ready but I think it's just mainly the inconsistency. Mainly I was just trying to figure out if it's normal for the ugliness and...

    Parents Backhand springs!

She told me that the reason she is falling is because she is jumping to much forward and not sitting enough. She is protecting her head and neck and her arms are straight so she isn't bending them. She is also too long in a hand stand shape once she flips backward and not getting the momentum...

    Parents Backhand springs!

Yea makes sense I don't want bad habits. Falling is normal when ur first learning a new skill no one does it perfectly every time. I just was curious as to if other parents ever noticed their kids inconsistency and struggle when doing them on their own in the begining

    Parents Backhand springs!

No I wasn't suggesting or saying doing bhs at home. I was saying to practice back bends and back walk overs might help her with keeping her arms straight but her problem isn't bending arms. I'm not concerned with how fast or slow it takes her. My concern is with the consistency and how she...

    Parents Backhand springs!

Coach says that she isn't landing on her neck and occasionally shoulders bc she is jumping forward too much or she is in her handstand shape too long. Coach says that her hands are straight and she's just more inconsistent than anything and just needs more practice. Makes me feel a little better

    Parents Backhand springs!

Oh okay. She usually does them on the trampoline I didn't think a backbend was as bad. I know we would never ever try bhs outside the gym. I guess we will just a stick to what coach think we should do. Hopefully they arent as bad as my dd makes it sound.

    Parents Backhand springs!

I thought it was more of a bendy arm thing myself but when I asked her why she would sometimes land that way she said it was because she was not jumping high enough. She gets lots of drills and spots and so far only her and another girl new to the team are actually getting to try them on their...

But is it okay or normal for them to have those occasional falls on their shoulders and neck?
