MAG Compulsory divisions and regional?? How do I explain this to my kid?

I had this same conversation yesterday with my DS, J. We're in Region 6 who uses an allotment system. For J (L5, D1) they are taking only the top 5 of 16 from our state. J has a chance but he has to have his best meet of the season. Meanwhile, his 3 L5, D2 teammates all get to automatically...

    MAG Allotment

Our coach passed along the numbers for New Hampshire for the groups where we have gymnasts. I don't have any other info and didn't see anything on the Region 6 website. Level 10 (17-19) Top 4 out of 4 Level 10 (15-16) Top 5 out of 8 Level 8 (13-14) Top 2 out of 2 Level 7-D1 (10-11) Top 3 out...

    MAG Compulsory divisions bonus questions

I'm not sure for 7&8 year olds but do know for 9 and up there are 21 D1's and 7 D2's in my state. With Region 6 so large (including Massachusetts which is huge), I suspect the imbalance has to do with session capacity and the imbalance between the number of boys competing D1 vs D2. Level 5...

    MAG Allotment

They use allotments in Region 6. Numbers came out last night for our state and are based on Level, Age and Division.

    MAG Compulsory divisions bonus questions

When competing 5 bonuses, the maximum starting value increase is 2.5 points. If a D1 gymnast's final score competing 5 bonuses is 3 points higher than a D2 gymnast's score, it can be inferred that the D1 gymnast would have done better than the D2 gymnast had he competed D2. For the D1 gymnast...

    MAG Compulsory divisions bonus questions

I get what your saying Madden3. But this has happened where Ds's scores have been 3 points higher and he only competed 5 bonuses. Gracyomalley is right. I've been telling DS not to concentrate on medals but on his scores, and increasing his own score by adding new skills and keeping his base...

    MAG Compulsory divisions bonus questions

Personally, having a D2 has hurt my son. This is only his second year competing - last year as a 9 year old L4, this year as a 10 year old L5. Last year he usually finished at about the top third to half AA in the big meets, winning events and AA at smaller meets. This year, there are 5 boys...

    MAG Private lessons

My son does a 1 hour private with the head coach - usually weekly, almost like an additional practice. Most of the other kids on team only do them occasionally to work on specific skills. The reason we do them is because my son started gymnastics at a gym with no boys' team and we didn't move...
