We’ve done this twice and went about it in the same way as LadyJ described above. Both gyms were very welcoming to my daughter and we had a great experience!
Do you see these patterns in other areas of her life (e.g., school, chores, other extracurriculars, etc.)? If so, you may want to consider an evaluation for ADHD.
We do a heavy snack before practice and dinner afterwards. My DD is a night owl, so she has a decent amount of time to digest dinner before heading to bed.
Does anyone have any good shaping drills that can be done easily at home for a gymnast (training L5/6) looking to clean up form and improve muscle memory of proper shapes? Videos are helpful! Thanks!
Would you go to a gym where the coaching is a good fit, but the teammates are not ideal or a gym where the teammates are a good fit, but the coaching is not ideal?
If you don’t think weather or traffic will be a factor, I think you’d be fine to leave in the morning as long as your child isn’t one who gets really anxious about not getting places super early. During the 20-21 season when Covid was in full swing, we drove the day of meets when possible to...
We try to do a healthy dinner the night before with a mix of carbs, protein, and veggies. If we’re traveling we always stay in a hotel that has a nice room service menu and do that the night before. We split an appetizer, salad, entree, and dessert so that we get to try lots of things and she...
I definitely agree you should get it checked out. However, is she possibly scared to do that skill again (or even other skills) and is using her ankle as an excuse to avoid training things she’s now hesitant about?
Is it Level 4? The first symbol looks like it could be a BWO and then the next symbol looks like it could be the FHS, CW, BER and the last symbol looks like it could be the RO, BHS, BHS.
We get new competition leos, practice leos, and warm ups every year. The cost is all rolled into a flat competition fee which is paid monthly, so I don’t know the exact cost. The warm ups are probably around $80-100, the practice leo is probably around $50, and the competition leo is rumored to...
Another one (especially if you have an early morning session) is to consider whether you need to request a late check out time. I once had to run back and pack up our hotel room in between the end of the competition and awards and almost missed seeing my daughter place first in two events.
If you have an early morning session, check out the competition venue the night before. It will be less stressful for you and your gymnast the morning of the competition if you’re not worried about wrong turns and parking snafus.
I would put him in swimming. It’s an essential life skill that is very complementary with gymnastics (a good aerobic workout without the pounding on the joints). Outside of athletics, at that age my kids loved magnatiles, legos, stem projects like Kiwi Crates, and Brain Pop Jr. (and still enjoy...
Has anyone tried the mUv Method stretch program? It keeps coming across my FB feed. We’re traveling a lot this summer and my DD will miss quite a bit of gym. I was wondering if this would be a good program for her to work through to maintain/improve her flexibility. Thanks!
As early as possible. Mine were in the water at 7 months. I always told them it was the only sport I would require them to do (lessons, not team). Luckily they both love it!
