I cannot for the life of me find out when New Jersey's (region 7) Xcel competition season begins. I tried looking on the USAG website and the website for my state/region, but to no avail. Does anyone know this information, or where I could find it? I want to know so I can plan when I should have the team leotards ordered and so I can plan my practices accordingly.

Wish I could help. I only find gymns that do JOGA or Usaigc. Maybe Dunno or other coaches would know where to look. Or could you email someone at usagnj?

We are in Region 7 too so I know our Excel runs Nov/Dec- April. The compulsory, optional & excel all run in the same season. Our Leo's will be ordered by Aug.

I've been trying to find that out for NY also. I just went to their website and there are finally some meets there, but the first one isn't until January. I know there are some before then but they aren't posted yet. We are going to order our stupid unitard things in July. I can't believe I'm going to have to go to the judges at every meet and make sure they know that they aren't allowed to take deductions. It's going to be a nightmare. I can say though that the girls in our gym really love the mock up.

If you look at the meet calendar on the New Jersey USAG website, it looks like Xcel meets started in mid-November in 2013. That is probably a pretty good indicator of when they will start this year. Good luck!

Based on last year, it looks like meets start in Late Oct/ early Nov and States is in May and Regionals in June :)

Others have covered the competition season.

I live close to but not in NJ so my gym goes to a few meets there. From what I have seen, Gymmomof1 is right; NJ has fewer Xcel teams and more USAIGC and JOGA-NJ teams. I'm not sure how exactly these programs compare rules-wise to allow for crossover, as my gym doesn't have them. Depending on your location within New Jersey, you might want to look for meets in (south)eastern Pennsylvania where Xcel seems more common. Most of the NY Xcel meets seem to take place upstate and thus far from NJ (but hopefully close to you, Ivyagogo).

Yes, that is closer to me. I'm about 90 minutes north of New York City. Since this is our first season, we are going to keep our meets closer to home. I don't really want to travel more than 2 hours for a meet. I don't think we will need to.

Just curious -why are you doing unitards? Is this why you have to make sure that they won't take deductions?

Our GO is forcing us to. There have been several other threads about this. The unitard is going to look beautiful, but I'm still really irked by it.

Ivy, it will be ok, I promise!!! ... and you will start a trend. Lol, we still have girls that try to pull their competition leos down so they go straight across. There are 5 on team that would LOVE having biketards for competition!

So I'm bringing up this thread again because I still don't know how to find out when gyms host their meets. I want to pick out which ones I'm going to have my team compete, and from what I've heard it's best to do this early. I don't want to come to the party late and miss out on good meet opportunities. How can I find out what gyms in NJ and the surrounding areas host meets and when? Is there a website or source other than my state's gymnastics website? Because I checked there and still nothing. I'm starting to get worried. :(

I have found that you sometimes have to call the gyms directly. Are there meets that you have heard about and want to attend? Call the gym. Since you are the coach they will be more than happy to talk to you.

Well they probably haven't posted this seasons calendar yet. My state hasn't.

@Aero
NJ has only posted dates of Sectionals for the JO levels... and they don't even know who is hosting them yet. It is all TBD/TBA (to be determined or to be announced).

You may want to use the contact link on the NJ USAG website and ask about Xcel... there is NOTHING I could find on the website about it AT ALL
Depending on Where you are in NJ, you might consider some New York meets.
Nov. 8-9 Plainview, NY ... Hot Shots Gymnastics (it's the Fright Invite, so you would want to contact the gym if it is close enough to consider)

Jan 16-18 Orangeburg, NY ... Galaxy Gymnastics (Cirque de Galaxy, again, call the gym if close enough)

Here is a link to the rest of the NY Calendar

They host the Garden State Classic every year and they offer Xcel Competition. They would hopefully be able to help you figure it out.

I would just go to mymeetscores and see which gyms hosted meets last year, and then call them and ask. Definitely don't wait until the schedule is out, the most popular meets fill up quickly. Last year we didn't get into one meet that we wanted to go to, we sent the request in July, and the meet was already full!

Really? That's scary. I have also been waiting for the meet schedule to come out. I can't even enter my girls yet into USAG. Get this... As most of you know, our gym is new to competition. This is our first year for this Xcel team. Last year, we had a boys power tumbling team. They registered the gym through one of the Mom's who is a sometimes coach. She needs to add me to the gym's account so I can have admin privileges. She is away for the next few weeks and she is the only one who can do this. USAG can't even add me to the account. I'm getting paranoid even though I know it's only July. I really want to move on this and my hands are tied.

FYI ivyagog - you can enter your gymnasts into meets before you have their USAG registration finalized. Just let the meet director know their USAG #'s are "pending" and that you will forward that info as soon as you have it. The meet director should hold your spot with gymnast's names, levels, birthdates and payment.

If you go to the NY State Gymnastics website they have a schedule for this coming season's meets. The list is still nowhere near as full as it was last year. Only a few of the meets have registration open so far. I feel like we still have plenty of time, but I do want to get moving. How does payment for the meets work? Will I have to pay for all the girls upfront at the time that I register them? Do I do it with one credit card payment or collect all the checks from the parents and send them individually? We are all very new at this.
